Any company that doesn't pay you accurately and on time doesn't respect you, no matter what else they say or do.

I've driven for dozens of companies, and you know what I valued the most? An "ataboy" (or girl) when you did a good job. There were jobs I hated, but the boss was a great person, and would compliment me, or buy me lunch, and made all the difference.

You know, I read somewhere in which a lot of people share your thoughts here. I don't know which industry in pertained to, but there was a surprising number of workers that craved that the most from a job, even more so than money. I then began to wonder if that could play a role in reducing turnover sometimes. Perhaps company owners, driver managers, and the works may need to recognize that about some people.

It's our general lack of personal interaction today, most people today can't face a person of authority, because they feel uncomfortable not being behind a screen. I look everyone, cops, bosses, bossy apartment managers, RIGHT IN THE EYES,,it almost makes THEM feel uneasy, holy crap, this guy is actually looking me in the eyes. I read, if a company loses 25% of their work force in a turnover in a year, the problem probably lies with the company. There was a time, when companies could get away with being axxholes, there was a glut of workers. Now, I think, companies are reevaluating how they treat drivers, they aren't "a dime a dozen" anymore, and that could be a good thing.

25 percent is a pretty big number. Workers have more leverage than ever now,, so companies need to hear their workforce out. You're certainly right about eye contact. I look at folks too, especially when I need sincerity to be known.. Conversation is also such a lost art these days. If people ain't arguing, then there isn't any dialogue for real.

If they'll give me some good miles with good pay to a good receiver, I can be happy. Of course vacation time is good. After that, they can treat me like I am invisible. I just want to go to work, get decent pay at the end of the week with less hassle at the shipper/receiver. I don't need to be baby sat. Just give me something to do & leave the rest to me. I don't need to know they exist either. If I needed a social lifestyle, I'd go back to high school.

    That'd make me really happy.
