Thanks for picking up on that - it bothers me greatly too.

$26/month for the black box connection, and forced to buy and update a device to link with it. $3,400 over 11 years now - I’d rather have it in a CD.

And chargers, and a mount to boot - screw holes where I didn’t want them.

I’ll take paper logs any day. They made us use our brains, a CB call (“Hey - what’s the name of this town?)

Penmanship, exercise for the mind in calculating miles driven - speed limits - distance traveled. Hours remaining, running recap. Stuff your brain could exercise on while driving.

Reading and writing in English. Using basic Casio calculator math. Community and communication. All lost to regulated dumbing down.

All the while, multiplied out - tech companies make billions, leeching and sucking nickels and dimes out of an industry that functioned just fine, before they saw the potential cash grab.

Spend the rest of my life railing against a manipulated system, or just buy stock in the company. Great choices.

I figured I’ll just have to go and rent another cheap device - oh, I meant BUY another device. But you don’t BUY it, you just have it until it’s manufactured obsolescence trip switch goes off, then throw it in the trash.

I think I understand why you wrote what you did.

The ‘driver facing’ is - that the ELD device HAS to be in a holder facing the driver - not just laying on the floor, or sitting on the passenger seat.

I don’t need a driver facing camera.

Paper logs used to be updated and slung on the seat, floor or driver door pocket.

Now - safety dictates we have a dedicated holder (device industry win) attached and facing the operator - another unnecessary distraction.

So the replacement needs to be phone size. I don’t have room for a tablet - let alone the desire for one.
