In Texas and about half the states in the US it is illegal to mount something on your windshield with a suction cup device.

How are you guys mounting your cameras? I just bought a KDLInks X1 and it is an awesome camera but it mounts from the top and a suction cup. No real easy was to mount it any other way.

Seriously, a suction cup attachment is illegal? I have never heard of such a thing.

I do know that anything mounted to a windshield may not obscure the area in which the wipers sweep. In the truck I drive, for example, I mount the camera in the extreme, upper right hand passenger corner of the split windshield.

Imagine that! I never would of considered that. And to think that the whole time I was in Oregon and Washington this past October, I had my camera suction cup mounted to the windshield of my rental car...

I am not saying it is never enforced I was just saying it is a law that doesn't appear to be enforced very often but could be. I figured if I could spend a little time and mount it some other way which is legal then why not?

I was kind of thinking about hanging it off the bottom of my CB.

Yup! It's true, here in Nevada, you can't place anything that's in the same path as the windshield wipers, I didn't know this until about 5-6 months ago, when I got stopped for a DOT, when he told me this, I was kind of like? Ya sure! Until he showed me the law in the book

I use double sided tape because the pos suction cup would let loose whenever I was driving toward the sun and the windshield heated up . I guess I got accidentally legal .

Double sided tape works well. Cali started this but they have a hard time with prepass so they are really just using it on cars with radar detectors. I wouldn't worry about it.
