Exactly..my company essentially has that policy but as long you’re productive out here and such they really don’t say anything either…i would imagine it’s like that at many companies..

The big problem I see at Holland is they have a lot of female drivers that look like quarter backs that smell like a red lobster dumpster in Memphis in August.

Thanks for letting me know about the APU.

You could very well be right about everything else you said.

I know for me I would definitely get burned out with only 1 day off per week if I was always on the east coast. But I think it would be a lot easier for me to stay out a couple of months if I was constantly running coast to coast runs, and that's why Holland has always kind of intrigued me. They seem like one of the last mid sized - mega size truckload, solo driver company's with consistent coast to coast runs. So what they offer there is very unique.

It's like I said though, for me personally I just wonder how many years of having only 4 days off per month is mentally sustainable.

My current company says 1.5 days for every week out but I take 6-7 days off every 3-4 weeks and they've never questioned it. When I used to work at Indian River, their policy was 1 day for every week out but I took the same amount of home time there and they never questioned it. Hell, I even took more at Indian River. Took 9 days off once when I was feeling lazy. If I were to work for Holland, I would need to ask the recruiter how strict their home time policy is. That would determine whether or not I'd work there. That, and if the truck will idle when I need it to. If it at least has a temperature range where it will idle continuously that works for me. I used to work at ATS and their trucks have tripacs. The heater was probably good down to 0F and AC was good to about 95F. The truck would idle continuously above 95F and I think below 32F. We were told that you get a hotel if the tripac breaks down. Fine by me. I love an excuse for a free hotel visit.

Strict home time companies only work out if the driver is home daily. You'll never keep drivers letting them go home every leap year for a 34.

I only left Holland because it was time for me to step my way down to being home every night. I would gladly go back to Holland if I ever got the super long haul bug again. There are only two other companies I’d also consider…

Hoffman Family Trucking out of Jamestown, ND and where @Cobrawastaken is at.

I had many wonderful years, interspersed with a few bad times at Holland. The home time deal…. Most of the time I was home before my requested day and time, and was able to come back out when I was ready. They aren’t strict at all about that.

That's good to know. Tell me about the "few bad times". It's not that I want to make the company look bad, I'm just looking to get a more realistic idea of what to expect. Not that I'm gonna work there any time soon, I just like to keep my options open.

It was mostly due to some truck maintenance issues and pay issues. The truck thing got resolved when they finally listened to me about it. Pay issues were mostly due to some issues with unpaid mileage and reimbursement.
The person that did that no longer works there and hasn’t since 2015.

Richard can be tough at times to get along with (head shop guy), he didn’t listen to me when I was explaining truck issues to him. I’m not a certified mechanic by any means, but can perform an in frame rebuild if needed.

He got made at me once because I replaced a belt on a reefer, without his permission. He knew what I can do mechanic wise, and didn’t like that I had the knowledge and knew what was going on with it.

The truck was a lemon and was never far away from a shop most of the time, lol.

Aside from those issues, I have no major complaints about Holland.

Oh yeah don’t EVER wear a shirt around the shop that says “Don’t be a Richard”, lol.
