Same with perdiem. It's another way to fork free money over. I wonder how cooked their books are.

yeah, the perdiem is a toss up, either you stick it to the government by legally not paying taxes on all of your wages, and give $0.02 back to Knight. Or you can just keep all of your wages and give a full 15% back to our Uncle Sam.
I'm in the process of getting off of perdiem because it makes your yearly income look like garbage.Smaggs Thanks this. -

hey smaggs ... how does the perdiem affect how much you make? i thought you was paid by the mile..and do they pay from zip code to zip code or actuall driving miles? thanks and have gained alot of insight from your videos. Still wanting to give the industry a try but can't seem to make the change. don't get me wrong i still hate my 7-3 job same ol' same ol' every single day at the prison nothing ever changes

nah, the paperwork isn't too bad, just your name, driver code, and signature.. on the form it says it'll take effect the 1st of the following month, but i had my safety/driver development manager fax one to me at a truck stop, i filled it out and faxed it back and the check i just got no longer has perdiem in it.. If ya need the form let me know and i'll email it over to you.
@holmescounty the way the perdiem works is that Knight holds $0.13 off of your mileage pay.. so for a 500+ mi run you'll be in the $0.33mi bracket loaded.. What happens if you're on perdiem is that Knight will only pay you $0.20 a loaded mile, and then reimburse you $0.11 a loaded mile and call it "Perdiem Reimbursment". if you've noticed, $0.02 cents has just up and vanished (.33pay scale - .11 perdiem = .22) that other $0.02 is supposedly used to cover the difference Knight has to pay in taxes or something.
But the $0.13 come off of all miles, loaded and mty. Also they pay short miles and not routed miles.
If i can figure out how to do it, i'll copy a pay check stub and post it.. I'll make sure it has as many reimbursements and what knots as possible.
*Note*
i'm not a cheerleader for Knight, and i'm sure as hell not a desk jockey. I just know that a couple of years ago i wanted/needed to know how to become an owner operator so i spent months on this forum, found a great thread by a user who did it from SCRATCH all the way from the CDL to scaling his first load. And it helped alot.. But what kills me on this forum is how many people just lurk around in threads with nothing but negative stuff to say. If you're in a Swift thread and ask "How many notches to slide trailer axle to move 2k lbs onto truck" there will be about six or seven replies about how dumb that question is and how Swift isn't training the drivers right, how swift is a bottom feeder. You'll end up with everything plus a bathroom sink except for the answer you needed.
I'm not trying to seem like a know it all, or a brown nosier (not at my terminal enough to do that) i'm just trying to help Saggs help others on this forum with what i know.. and what i know is how my Knight Terminal operates and i know what i've done and what i've been through with Knight.. I wont say it's the same at all terminals cause that's been proven to be false. But i'll help when i can.. Even when i quit, for what ever reason it is, i'll let people know, and i'll disclose full details, but i wont try to shy people away from an organization because i had a bad experience with them.. i'll give them the information and let them make their own decision.Last edited: Jan 19, 2012

$0.02 cpm doesn't sound like much but based on a 2500 mile week that is $50 dollars OR $200 dollars a month. So your losing $2400 dollars a year for being on per diam. It's a hell of a deal for the companies.

i know, that's why i say it's a toss up... but the think i didnt think about until it was too late was that if you're trying to do anything BIG that involves your incomes, perdiem is gonna hurt you.. because it shows you make less (on paper which is why you pay less in taxes) and when i loan officer looks at your tax return they're gonna probably deny you because paper says you dont make enough even though you may average $800 a week for the entire year.

hey mitch you drive for knight? how wouldyou rate them to start with. I don't do the whole job hopping thing once i'm working for someone i'll stay with it. just ask the state of florida been at the prison around 5 1/2 years...still there even though i don't like it

yep, and since i dont have a personal vendetta against the government, i could care less if i pay less taxes or not.. as long as the police keeps coming when i call and the fire department puts out them brush fires more power to them.
