Call state patrol out, and ask them to call you a tow truck. My truck quit once on I-77 in VA where I had no cell phone service and the Qcomm was blocked by the mountains (asked another driver via the CB to call the state boys). Didn't take long to get towed to a shop.
Most always a way to work around things.

Good idea tracy or just have the officer call knight.Drivers are pretty much ignored till the company gets around to it which could be tomorrow. But if an officer calls them, they'll get on it right away.

Well... let me share the good of this situation.
Knight has finally set me up with a shop... can't get in until wednesday, but that's life.
Talk about coincidence. I break down. I park. I happen to be on the exit where very good friends of mine moved to, but I had never visited, so I didn't know I was near them yet.
I live in Phoenix, but I'm originally from Erie, PA but haven't been up this way since 2006.
My friends rescued me and I didn't have to sit in my cold truck. My brother came all the way down from Erie and I got to see both of my grandmas and some of my aunts, uncles and cousins. I also saw a few friends. These were all people I hadn't seen since 2006, so it was really nice!
My brother drove me to my truck and we got a motel room and had dinner and just got to hang out and could see my truck from the window.
Another killer coincidence? My volvo has a cummins in it. There just happens to be a Cummins shop right at this exit! That's nice.
The only drag is that I've been down since Friday, but I can get into the shop on Wednesday.
At least a bunch of good came out of the breakdown. Knight is working to get me a T-call and they gave me the OK to stay with my friends at their house, so I don't have to freeze in the truck. My friends here even let me have free reign of one of their cars so I can drive over to my truck and make sure the reefer is good and just to do a general checkup, though I'm parked in a really safe area.
So that's the good. The bad is just how annoying it is to get help on a weekend!
I'm tired. Been super stressed all weekend and I can't wait to get over this speedbump and get back on the road.
As easy as it would be to quit, I really want to finish my year and give myself more time to learn more about this industry.
I've also politely suggested to everyone I talked to at Knight to review their phone systems and make sure the voicemails and express codes are working and redirecting drivers properly that call in.
I know Knight is a megacarrier like the others, but I've only been a trucker since June 2011. I would much rather get a year or two in with one company than job hop, thinking the grass is greener on the other side. Flip it over... it's still dirt.
Also wanted to say thanks again to people dropping their input and staying tuned. I'm just trying to avoid getting angry and giving up, because that isn't going to get me anywhere. The Challenger and Jarhed1964 Thank this. -
Smaggs,
I just registered on this site 5 minutes ago, but I've been reading your posts for the last 2 days...what can be said other than "HOLY.SHEEP.DIP.BATMAN?" I understand that as a new driver we feel like we've gotta carry a 55 gallon drum of vaseline at all times...but I've got to say I'm HIGHLY impressed with your stick-to-it attitude. I haven't watched your vids yet, I'm saving those for "dessert"...I just have to give you a thumbs up for having worked through all the 'carp' since June...and not making the news as the guy who torched his truck and ran it over a cliff...I know you're not the only one, but you're doing a fine job of stating facts AND opinions...and differentiating between the two.
Your experiences have me rethinking getting on with Squire/Knight as an experience builder (I have driven dump truck for 11 years, want to do t/t work now) FAR more than the guy I keep seeing who posts "I TOLD YA SO!!"...
Thank you. -
I just keep pretending someone is testing me. I don't have to do it forever. -

No numbers for you, just pure speculation. Trucking companies can flood the markets they choose with trucks and drivers and what's even better for the company is they don't have to pay a single red cent to have trucks sitting around waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I'm sure other industries drool over the way trucking companies are allowed to treat their employees. -
I get the feeling that it is to their benifit ( large companies) to not have experienced hard working drivers since that translates to paying them more. Why pay more when they could just hire a new driver pay them peanuts knowing they will soon quit and they don't care since they have stacks of applicants/victims to choose from? Sad to read this Smaggs but you're an honest person and you will get through this.
