I have old tk unit. It is tied into truck coolant but it has shut off valve on coolant line. When it runs at night to charge batteries it also warms up coolant.
You got one of the worst apu's trying to save a few bucks. You'll lose that money you tried to "save" by spending time at the shop trying to fix your dinasys.

My 2020 Cascadia has the 8 battery system from Freightliner. It has an electric a/c for sleeper and then coolant heater for the winter. Everything runs on the 8 batteries. When they get down to 12.2 the computer start the engine to recharge them. When the engine is running it will use the engine a/c system or the coolant for heat. They system will last about 6 hours before the engine need to start. Then it runs 2 hours to recharge the batteries. So 2 hours of engine time per night to sleep 8 or 10 hour break

So update. Went back . Turns out the computer on the system was bad. The heaters ground was also only hanging on by a thread. So far everything is working good now!
