Hoo boy one thing I can tell you about buying fuel, I got 19 trucks to fill more or less within 2 days and I do know how much fuel I DID use for each and evry single run we do. The one on my cascasdia seems to be off by 0.1. Seems the more you idle the more its off.

Worst gage I have is is my 2008 western star. It reads around 8 mpg and it really is around 6.5.

from socal to mi, in, oh and back I get average 7.5-8.2 mpg. calculated by fuel filled and odometer . I usually haul 20-30k lb freight.

475hp dd15,10 speed manual, 3.42 rears, all goodyear fuelmax, trailer skirts and meritor psi. I run 70-72 mph.

    LOL I feel as you.

I bought my truck (Pre-emission ACERT C15) and it was seeing 4.5 - 5 mpg loaded. A year later I finally got it to average (Loaded) 5.9 - 6.5 mpg,.. this is with step deck and doing tank to tank measurements, average gross is anywhere from 65 - 78k. Very happy with that. I would be elated to see over 7 mpg. I doubt this truck will ever see that, except when bob tailing.
