Ncdriver1, that's one of my rookie rants as well. I was given zero minutes of training on trip planning. Just finding the consignee can be a chore. I've learned to use Google maps as well as to use the street or satellite view to verify the written directions.

Just got back from an out and back yesterday. Ran up to Chester Pa and back on a 3 day to close out the year. It wasn't a system run so I wont use it to start a new thread.
Being available and keeping your dispatch up to date has benefits. As soon as I got back I let my dispatcher, George, know I was available if he needed me after my daughter's birthday on Sunday. He thanked me because a lot of drivers didn't want anything out until after Tuesday next week and he was running a skeleton crew. He said he had a run Sunday if I wanted it. I called and asked my wife if we could do my daughter's birthday Saturday. She agreed and I told George I could do the run if nobody else wanted it.
Another driver did want it, but George, knowing I had actually moved a birthday to help him out, called me up later with a choice of Tuesday runs, Birmingham or Denver. I took Denver for a couple of reasons. First, the forecast isn't bad over there on delivery next Friday, and, by the time I dispatch out the MW and NE should start warming up. I also have my in-laws out there, so if I plan it right, they'll be able to meet up with me the night before delivery. Yeah, the over 1700 loaded is nice too.
I'll use the Denver run to start a new thread about the misadventures of a rookie system driver. A new year is a good time for a new thread.
Stay safe and warm out there y'all. Have a happy new year too. -
