Long story short, I am a nightime LTL linedriver and the new HoS regs are forcing me to take two nights off each week. I am trying to make the best of things and I am joining the National Guard into my old career field when I was active duty (88M or 2T1, vehicle operator). I am doing this whole one weekend a month deal when I am forced on my two days off. I am guessing that my guard drill affect my 70 hours that I can work each week? Will I log that as "on duty not driving"? And also, when I do drive military trucks, it isn't considered DOT driving, can I still just log that as "on duty not driving"?
Thanks for the input! I am sure there are others on here that have dealt with this before.

That's one of those "don't ask, don't tell" situations.

I don't know but I'm gonna say you'll be fine not showing it but if something bad happens (accident with injuries) lawyers will be all over it like gnats. Military is supposed to be confidential
mje Thanks this. -
I could log it as "off duty"... But technically I am working and drawing a paycheck.
mje Thanks this. -
Driving military vehicles, no log needed. Military service is something I wouldn't log. Just make sure you're rested before you drive, too easy.

Legally you supposed to log it as line 4, you don't need a CDL to drive any green or tan trucks. Time to use their rules against them.
mje and road_runner Thank this. -
No need to log it. Military does not use log books or follow dot regs. Why do you think they don't stop in scales...
mje and MZdanowicz Thank this. -
this should have no bearing on your driving job. two separate issues. did you ever see DOT pull over any military unit? if you brought a log book on your monthly duty, grunts would think your nuts. if you want to be sure, go to where you are going to sign and ask to see the JAG on staff. mike-z

Question 28: How should time spent at National Guard meetings and training sessions be recorded for the hours of service requirements?
Guidance: A member of a military reserve component, serving in either an inactive duty status, such as weekend drills, or in an active duty status, such as annual training, may log that time as "off-duty time" regardless of whether such duty time is paid or un-paid. This is consistent with the rights and benefit entitlements provided in the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (38 U.S.C. 4301 et seq.)rickybobby, Sublime, mje and 4 others Thank this.
