If for some reason you do get on with Millis you will not regret it. You might not even have to leave the state with them..stay positive.

Well I have not reviewed all the replies so sorry if this only applies to the original post.. Ya know one thing in life I am brutally honest and I tell it like it is.. Think of it what is your typical hr person most of there time they are female middle class live in suburbia with there 2 and 3/4 kids a dog.. The first thing they are gonna see is prior bussiness ventures {tatoo shop} then prior convictions murder umm I think that will freak them out and to be honest dosent give you much of a chance.. Trust me I am all for people turning there life around but reality sucks and maybe if you really wanna get into it maybe you need to start your own gig and go owner operator find a cheap truck and go from there.. best of luck man

If you can get the CDL on your own without school, Paschall Truck Lines will hire you. They have 4 terminals in Texas, so there should be no problem being home when you need to. They have their own training program for CDL holders that haven't attended a formal CDL school.
Check the local Dept. of Labor and unemployment office about funds for CDL school also if the need arises that you will need formal schooling.
Apply with Swift for CDL training if Paschall doesn't work out for you. Western Express also might hire you, but you will have to complete a CDL school first & I believe it must be a 160 hour course. The cheapest CDL schools are at community colleges and are just as good as Roadmaster, etc.
Try FFE also; they have a good CDL training program and are Texas based.stevenneill and blairandgretchen Thank this. -

And after reading this entire thread, I'll share this -
I know every time I step into that truck - or even just off my property, that there's a slim chance that I could have a cataclysmically BAD day through no fault of my own. You never know what life will throw at you, or where you'll end up in the great scheme. I try REAL HARD not to judge other people who have had a few bad turns, because I know that it's a quick cosmic coin flip that could change our positions.Chinatown, stevenneill and Siberius Thank this. -
I am waiting on a couple of answers now and I will be applying at some of the places that have been suggested. I am looking into schooling options also. Which leads to another question. If I study enough I can pass the test. And I've regularly pulled 20' trailers. I can rent a truck for my CDL road test but is thatb the worst option? Would it hurt mmy chances even more or does it really matter if you complete a school or not?

stevenneill: Dude, This is a case for the Veterans Administration job assistance program! And as a few of the more positive response have stated, there are companies that will bring you on. Just burns me up that CERTAINS, can come up to the United States and get employment and NO one digs into their past/backgrounds yet look at some of the places they get access to. You have done your time fairly or unfairly, you are being monitored and this is on record; now with a family, I am certain that it is not your intention to commit another crime: If your ETS was under honorable conditions, seek out the VA for help. Aim High and good luck Soldier!
stevenneill and blairandgretchen Thank this.
