Like seeing the truck had the cam or lifter work could be an indication the oil wasn't changed regularly, or seeing that it had all new injectors put in... Would let me know I wouldn't have to do that anytime soon, and so on

Rig Dig - laboratory oil sample - and ECM dump.

ECM dump will show critical fault occurrence like oil pressure, high temp etc. also idle time, important with EGR engines.

3rd party warranties are usually problematic to say the least - I’ve heard too many stories.

Get an independent inspection, front end too.

    Dyno.

It’s not cheap after you’ve done it to 2 or 3 trucks, but it’ll save your butt in the long run.

During the engine life ECM collect information for how long and how severe engine was abused.
    Low coolant run time.
    Low oil pressure run time
    High coolant temperature run time.
    High oil temperature run time.
    High crank case pressure
Max engine speed and for how long.
How much load was applied to the engine.
How many regeneration processes were run
    How many regeneration failed
    Idle time
    Total run time.

Very helpfull thank you....can you see a dealership enduring the costs of an ecm change just too hide all the info from a prospective buyer that would be included in an ecm dump?

    truckdriver31 Thanks this.

    Highly likely.
What could be the reason to replace ECM?
    Dead ECM
Never seen ECM going completely dead by itself. Always someone did something. Wrong battery polarity? How about the other computers on this truck.
    Intermittent ECM faults?
Hard to diagnose and dealership will never waste money for new ECM. They will try to sell it as is then it yours problem.

That makes sense, I guess I'll choose a different truck with the same specs that doesn't have a replaced ECM

    One other question:
Would the 500hp ved13, paired with the 13 sp eaton, and the 3.36 rear gears be a good combination for out west travel (75mph average)and a decent amount of mountain climbing?

I dont want a truck that will fall on its face in the mountains

Sorry I'm not VED expert and never was interesting in truck racing.
