Not interested in truck racing, just don't want to do 35 miles an hour up the mountain

This is exactly what i call truck racing. Just shift down and save fuel money. Time you gain going up mountain faster you will lost for more frequent fuel stops.

    I own a 1995 truck. I don’t need California - I understand if you do.

After 6 years in this game - I’m much happier pouting $ into what I have, than trying to understand the newer trucks.

Do as you will - but I guaran F Tee you, if you skip out on pre purchase diligence, it’ll trash your business quick.

ECM is a part that can and will fail. Buddy had 3 go bad - one while it was in the shop (1995 FLD) -

First truck I bought at 975k had a replacement already.

@Snailexpress had a list of info from an ECM dump, it’s important.

Csn you buy cash? Is there a reason you’re dealing with Arrow? They’re not in business to help you succeed, just move inventory.

So you are not against buying a truck with a replaced ECM, and I would go through Arrow because I need to finance the first one

The journey begins - purchased a truck.

I’ve got some strong thoughts on how to survive/thrive in this business, financing heavily isn’t in my risk comfort zone.

The above thread is my journey over 6 years. If you have the time to skim read, do so.

I researched /prepared for several years before diving in.

Many here helped. You’ve got to listen and learn, prepare, and the first truck purchase is a critical step, amongst many others.

I’m behind you 100% - I never want to see anybody on the scrap heap of failed attempts at owner/operators - they’re all too common.

To the question - no, a replaced ECM is not a reason to discard an option - but it is filled with info that tells a story.

Dont listen to the “A $5,000 truck , no problem, you’ll be fine “ story - I watched a friend buy a truck for $10k that sunk him $40k in the hole before he parked it for the farm truck it was.

    Luck be with you.

my first truck will be about $50,000 with
380k to 400k miles on it, hopefully this will afford me about 200,000 miles before I have to pay for an in-frame or something really expensive....thoughts?

What you will be looking at sooner is the emission systems. That why you are better off if you can get an ecm dump. You will know the amount of idle hours compared to total engine hours. Without an apu many truck will have idle time like 50% of total engine hours. Idling kills emission systems and if you get a high idle truck you are asking for trouble. Good luck to you. Keep asking questions. You came to the right place for some good answers.

A ‘simple’ after treatment repair bill can run 5-15k - be prepared for these things.
