Hello,
I will need some honest advice from you.I had my license from 1995 and did not drive since then.I went to Schneider open house for the tanker fleet and was told that I need a refresher course which I did and of course when I reapplied I was told that they will hire me but I need 2 mo. experience driving and I can call back .Even that the job was posted that will hire new students. Hats fine it is what it is I am learning as I go and understand. I called Melton and got the same response. I am wondering who will stay at the job only for 2 mo. and change? It is not my intension anyway. I applied to other co and so far I was accepted to SWIFT,WERNER.CRST,STEVENS(DID NOT RESPOND)USA TRUCING.I also applied to Maverick(no answer)TMC(no answer)and some other cant remember right now. Time is ticking and I have to make a decision and I am more confused than ever. I have the right mind set that I will NOT make money and I will start at 0.25.I live in NJ.I know that Swift and Werner are the same after reading all the posts from here but still need advice. In a long run as all of us looking to be paid % and drive less because I know that make more sense.Any comment will be appreciated I have to make a decision. Thanks.![]()

Shame that the 4 worst ones responded, and the two decent ones didn't.
Call TMC and Maverick back and hound them till you get a response.
A little patience and diligence at this stage will pay off . . .Puppage, sevenmph, newbietrucker007 and 1 other person Thank this. -
From a family members recent experience -
"Refresher course" often means you teaming with another guy that needs "refreshing" - for 2 months at a junk rate.
Irresponsible, if you ask me. That was western express ( avoid ). -
Re-entry to this business is very tough and I wish you all the best of luck. Once you have some recent experience behind you it will be a lot easier to move to a company that more suits your needs and goals...until then, you're stuck with whoever will hire you and give you the reentry training that you need. Try to avoid companies that will force you to sit as a trainee for several months at seriously low pay before allowing you to move on to a solo truck.

Its almost a pain to give you these companies names because of what some people say about them however the negatives can be said for any of the companies you listed in your original post so I'm just going to throw it out there May Trucking Co. and Covenant transport. May starts out at 30 cents per mile or you can take four twenty per week. I believe covenant starts out at .25 cpm and they will bump you up if you have hazmat and are willing to do teams.
Hopefully that helps. Good luck loyal9 -
All you need is a few months then you can switch to tanker, right?
Take what you can get then and also try Ozark Motor Lines, Western Express, Paschall Truck Lines. -
covenant transportation has a refresher course I believe. the pay is not too bad. phase 1:you go out with a trainer for 35-40 days at $450 a week ($525/week if you have hazmat). phase 2: heres the bad part, you have to team with someone for 3 months at .19 cents on all miles driven. however guaranteed $700 a week minimum while in the truck.phase 3: upgrade to company driver and you can continue running team or go with their sister carrier SRT(southern refrigerated transport) and run solo. this is what I was told by a recruiter and its on their website too

Swift or Stevens would be the best choices out of those that responded.
