Is there any opportunities for me to enter the truck driving field after having been out of work for 10 years?
My driving record is clean and I do not have any criminal record. But at my age (72) most trucking companies I have applied to for a prehire letter refuse to issue one to me so I can enter a prepaid truck training program. This is in spite of the fact I have passed the required physical and the driving test.
Is it possible that most insurance companies refuse to allow most trucking companies to hire seniors?

Do you recall whom you've applied with? I spoke with a fellow recently who was almost 70. He had never driven big truck until this year. He's been going at it solo for almost 90 days now. He went to swift.

Swift is pretty easy to be hired on with; just pass a simple physical and drug test.
    Where do you live, city/state?

If you want a private CDL school, it's easy to get pre-hire letters from multiple companies. Need to know the hiring area you live in; city/state.

I went to Swift when I was 68, Z. Had a good 13 months, moved on. Give them a try. They've raised the pay for new drivers, a lot, since I was there in 2012. Best.

As long as you're in good health, most if not all starter companies would welcome you aboard despite your age.

It ALL depends on the specific company you apply for. Prime? They probably won't hire you. Swift? They probably will hire you. Schneider? They probably will hire you. Maverick? They probably won't hire you. And on it goes down the line.

You see, some backward companies require that you have a PERFECT employment history. If you get an inheritance and take off for 5 years to enjoy life? They won't hire you. Retire from your job at age 62 get bored and 5 years later want to go trucking? Well some companies won't hire because of your "Employment Gap." These same companies WILL hire an immigrant from Russia, Syria, anywhere though and there is NO WAY ON EARTH they can accurately verify their work history from their foreign country they came from - but they don't wanna talk about that.

The good news is to keep trying and chances are you will be able to be hired. Mick Jagger is 72 and he is in better shape than most people in their 20's today.

Retired people aren't unemployed. On appications you fill in the dates that you've been retired. People that were unemployed for a ong period of time have a real problem with most trucking companies; retired people don't.

Yep than they should obviously lie and say they were retired instead of unemployed. Whatever it takes to get hired lol
