I would measure your 5th wheel setting forward to the front bumper and assuming you have a 36" kingpin setting, to pull a 53' trailer, can't be more than 20' kingpin to front bumper. (total length 70') or have they changed it to 75' ? Been retired awhile ! But anyway double check my figures, sometimes my brain is in a fog. Also is it a sliding 5th wheel ?

20' kingpin to front bumper? max length? Which states?

Canada has a 23 metre maximum length or about 75'6". Otherwise in USA just make sure you are good for your trailer wheelbase and you should be good to go. May want to consider if a 53' is really needed for your customers - the longer the truck wheelbase is the less weight you will get on the steer axle - so a 48' spread will still allow you to achieve 80,000 since the trailer can carry more and impossible to get 12000 on steers.

I think 75 ft would be doable in most of the 48, depending on the route. I would recommend chatting with the car hauler forum as quite a few of them will be in 80ft range when loaded.
@joey7119 if you're worried about getting weight on your steers, if possible, look into moving the fuel tanks under the doors instead of under the cab instead of under the sleeper.

    What type of trailer?

I run a 320” wb tractor with a 48-80 flat extendable with closed tandems slid all the way forward.

At 48’ I’m 74’9” overall with under 41’ kp setting.

Without going through the ones I know - basically TN and FL can be problems. GA is 75’ but I’ve never seen it enforced.

Bottom line is - annual blankets can be purchased relatively cheaply for FL and TN that will cover you. I’ve got a cheat sheet made up for most of the eastern states so I can quickly quote over length loads.

My 16 FL had a longer base then my 12 did. Boss was hoping to eliminate the need for over length permits. Which didn't happen. I had no problem running around with 13 on the steers.

Depends on the truck setup and 5th wheel slider position.
