I live in St. Louis and am heading down to ASU-Newport in Arkansas.....But then I can afford to pay for the training ($1100) and not be an indentured servant for a year+ to pay back $5k+ to outfits like MTC....
If you need to have a company pay your way, MTC is about the same as the majority of trucking schools.ColoradoDreamin Thanks this. -
Thanks maylith. I've seen ASU referenced in other posts and will have to do some checking into it. I too am planning on taking care of the financing on my end so as to avoid the bs...

Are there disadvantages to getting a CDL out-of-state?
-
From what I am reading on other posts, you get your cdl from the state you train in and then you can transfer it to your home state.

I hope you guys realize your chances of getting a job get worse every day as trucking companies stack up all the applications from trucking school graduates . There are far more applicants than jobs available . When a job does come open it's because somebody quit because they weren't getting enough miles to earn a pay to survive on . There are more and more posts here by graduates and experienced drivers unable to find work .

RickG...I appreciate the warning and do understand the risk. I plan on taking care of the financing on my end to avoid the risk of being stuck with a huge bill "IF" I am hired and let go within the first year. Besides...with over 6.5 million on unemployment and unknown numbers of unemployed that don't qualify for assistance now is a bad time to look for anything. I guess I could always start a ponzi scheme...seems to be popular nowadays.....

What else is bad, is if you don't have driving experience within 90 days from graduating from school, you have to then take a refresher coarse!
