That was originally my plan, but I’d like to take the road test in a truck that I’m familiar driving. Doubt my employer would approve me driving a two thousand mile round trip just so I could take it in a company vehicle.

You will need to check, most dmv's now only test on certain days, and some you have to have an appointment to do so.

I think you can contact schools local to the dmv where you want to take the drive test. For a fee, they will probably let you use their truck on test day, after you confirm the trucks they are the type you want to use.

I’m not quite sure if it is the same everywhere but I took an approved road test in PA for a NY CDL and their system sent it directly to the NY DMV.

I’m sure wherever you go they have to follow the same cookie cutter federal test standards to do it though.

As far as the equipment, get your company to rent from Penske and have one of the licensed guys drive you to the test site.
