Ok so i got 2014 with d13 just a bit over 370000mi on the clock. Just recently on my trip to cali i started having problems with loss of power mainly when going up the hill. Its not happening every time, for example Lincoln in Wyoming was pretty bad but on the other hand Donner pass was a peace of cake. I figured after reading around a little that it might be bad injectors or cups. Knowing that those were never changed in i took it to a dealer so they can take a look at and... Well the only thing that was showing up on the computer was all kinds of inactivity voltage codes that were stored from a while back ( possibly from bad battery connections which i cleaned already) and a code/light showing hight soot level, severe engine derate possible. Dealer of course wants ridiculous $$$$ for the job so ill take it somewhere else to get it baked. Now that brings me to a question will clogged dpf throw out similar symptoms as if injectors were bad like a loss of power/chocking sort of fuel cut out but only when under load, fluttering rpm needle etc. The truck cranks fine with no problems but someone also told me that my fuel consumption on High idle is a bit too low only 0.3 and 0.4 without rising rpms which could also indicate bad wiring or harness. Anyway im Taking it back to dealer tomorrow so they can test injectors but just wanted to see if anyone has some ideas besides setting it on fire. Thanks in advance
Need some opinion

that sort of sounds like maybe a sensor in the filter system...or a harness problem

DPF being clogged will mainly have severe loss of power you will not have the truck choking one moment and going the next either flat line or good with injectors you are going to have the choking specially when pulling heavy loads or up hills

One of our older Freightshakers (Columbia, forgot the year) had almost the exact same symptoms you described. It derated and eventally shut down when I tried to pick up a load one day. Long story short, it took $4,000 and a new DPF to get her back to running right.
On a related note, we've been turning the idle up a notch via the cruise control whenever we use the PTO to operate the trailer. Apparently a mechanic told our boss that it doesn't help emissions when
we leave the idle set low. I wouldn't know enough to have a legit opinion on what he said, but that's what he told us. -
Alright just got the news from a dealer and its injectors unfortunately. They did cylinder balance test, injector cut off test and signal test. First and sixth are going bad so 3,4,5 have higher compensation. Good news its not at the point of going really bad and only just starting. As far as dpf they are not sure what is causing the light to show higher soot levels because sensor parameters don't indicate any problems and even in my dash computer when i check ats status in aftertreatment soot levels are on 1/4 only. Thanks for the help guys
