I saw a NEMF headed east on the PA Turnpike today. Probably the last time I'll see one of them on the highway.
I wonder what's going through that driver's mind right now?
How does one shut a company that size down "properly"? When do they stop making pickups? Or buying fuel? How do you bill a load after you've closed for good? Are they routing all drivers to their home terminals? Will anyone show up tomorrow? How many loads do they have in transit that were scheduled for delivery after their last day?
I know the WRONG way to close. I'd just started when Arrow crashed and burned, but as I think about it, it's fascinating. You don't just send everyone home and padlock the doors until the liquidators come, but they never taught this in school.
NEMF (New England Motor Freight) is history.

again, i speak of years of experiences...this is a B.S. industry and the sooner one does what is needed to survive and take care of #1, the better.
that company back a few years ago, when the economy tanked, denied pay raises per the union contract, in favor of returning those raises "at a later time".
the owner, and ALL his kids, HAVE APARTMENTS in downtown Manhattan, and Long Island mansions...and OTHER real estate.
