Nothing wrong with that - I just REALLY like my time at home, especially right now . . . so I try to do the +$/-miles thing as much as possible.

1.80 a mile? My truck would lock me out if I tried to run her that cheap.

I haven't but according to the You flybe recruiters it's easy to do 6 or 7 k every week and make a killing. Maybe I'm in the wrong businesses...

And typically it shakes out the longer the run, the cheaper it gets.
    It's a give and take.
I like to piece together short to medium runs, that earns you the most, MOSTLY not always.
But you have the unknown of what might go wrong at shipper or receiver.

Then you get the miles on the truck argument.

But like you said, waiting a day here or there for that BIG money load, means it has to make enough to cover the day you just sat.

Also where is it going? Can you turn and burn, or DH out 5 hours. Not that 200 mile DH is so overwhelmingly expensive, but it chews up valuable 70.

Bottom line is to each his own. I think if I only made $35K year I'd still be happier than being controlled by somebody 2,000 miles away that could care less about me.

And the rates for long runs right now, 2000 plus miles, are often the same as all the rest.

And you have the "What am I getting into here?" factor.
That load that is $500 less that is a known quantity is often better cause you can plan. Where the unicorn is 50/50 just that, it vanishes.
Unicorn is great if you're right next to it, and you really have nothing invested to catch it, but chasing it, and counting on it being there a week down the road from an unknown broker or agent is hoping for a lot.

    Opus and kanidana Thank this.

And like Blair said, Landstar does not suffer fools. 98% on time. We have the best safety rating for large carrier.
It doesn't take a whole lot to get 86'd.
    Two service failures, bye.
Fail two or three roadsides, bye.
    Tickets, bye.
Even in house log violations, bye.

Atbs doesn't have anything to with SFI.
Atbs is a overpriced scam of a bussines.

What others are able to do at Schneider doesn't mean you'll have the same results.

    Stringb8n and Opus Thank this.
