With respect, if truckers are ever going to retain the professionalism, respectfully ask the company to hands off. We don't sit and fool with your dispatch computers or load brokerages, so don't fool with how we generate and run a trip. There are many good reasons for going the way we go sometimes.
I fear that might be too little too late eh? Ive been shocked and floored at how much the companies have managed to "Hold hands... or more precisely grab the neck of the child and elbow and frog march same down the road... with threats of firing and deductions of money for being sassy and talk back or going out of route.
Never seen a good company

"But, but...
The computer knows better".
...Says the twenty-something desk jockey who just came over from some fast food restaurant and apparently knows our job better than we do.

That's why I don't let myself get pushed into running in a way that will get me dot violations or tickets, especially with states like California or Oregon(i5 corridor). I've learned over the past 20 years not to accept garbage like "I've had drivers go an average of 70 between LA and Portland and they never got tickets!" Sorry, unless I see documented proof I call bs. If other drivers want to run like hell through a snowstorm have have plenty of cash laying around in case they get tickets or need lawyers, fine. It's my CDL and therefore if I lose it, there goes not just my job, but my career as well. Not to mention if I did get caught "running outlaw" because a dispatcher or broker screamed at me to do so, it's a good bet the safety dept. at whatever company I'm at will penalize me along with whatever fine and CSA points I would get hit with. Im sure some people will brag how they fly through those areas all the time and don't get caught... good for them.
The Patriot, mjd4277, 51.50 and 2 others Thank this. -
The calif hwy patrol are writing log book tickets with huge fines for the smallest mistake. If you chose to appear in court, the judge knows nothing about a truckers log book and will side with the cop every time.

To the o/p, you made it through what sounds like your first trip through some hills successfully, there are much more challenging ones you will encounter down the road. As far as companies not being honest with you, all I can say is it does get better the longer you're here. They all have varying degrees of dishonesty.
