Hey guys, this is my first post to the Truckers forum, and I am glad I have stumbled upon the forum, as I have a small crisis as of right now...

I went to FTA here in Asheboro under the sponsorship of PAM Transport, which was great. I got very good training, even though it was only a month long class, and I was able to pick up on things very quickly.

However, after returning home, I was assigned a mentor who has been nothing short of ignorant to me, told me to meet him at a local walmart, and never showed up or called, and then when I called him he acted like he had no clue what I was talking about???? He also gave me a date, and then called that night stating that he had some personal business to go do back up north, and to wait around for days????

I am pretty cross with this mentor, so I have requested a new one from PAM via e-mail. Right off the bat he hasn't made me like him very much, so I'm not going to spend 2 weeks with the guy....

Some other PAM students from FTA have had a similar problem (exactly) and some have already jumped ship and moved to SWIFT Transportation....

I'm wondering what I should do? I would really appreciate some advice.

    Thanks,

    Andy B.

You'll only be hurting yourself if you jump ship.Pam doesn't have a good reputation so I say shop around for a better company and don't take the first one that hires you look at as many companies you can with the best training program.

Just ask for a new trainer and honor your commitment.

6 in one.....half a dozen in the other.
Especially starting out; they are ALL the same.
I would atleast give PAM a go...get on the phone, and ask them if there's anyone RELIABLE so you can go to work. Tell them your experience, and let them know you're not getting a very good first impression of the company so far. MAKE THINGS HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!

Ok. I sent some more e-mails requesting a new mentor. I really want to give PAM a go, as i know most of the new drivers get the short end of the stick anywhere they go....Hopefully I hear back today....

How would I be harming myself? Several other student are going to Swift's orientation TODAY. They've already been picked up!

Oh, ok. No I just got my CDL, I want to get right into it! PAM hasn't been very impressive initially, but I am willing to give them a chance if they can get their stuff organized....Thanks
