You apparently haven’t been around much. Walk into any truckstop and you can’t tell the difference between carnival workers and truckdrivers anymore.

Drivers that have employment as cdl drivers should be asked, "If flipping burgers is better than truck driving, then why are you still driving trucks?"
Every new driver can't start out at the top of the game and some have to work very hard to get started. We should encourage them not to give up.

Sure, most drivers are obese slobs now but WE drivers have a certain look all their own IMO.

I never discouraged anyone from getting their CDL. It's the path they take with that CDL is what makes a difference. Living in third world countries as an indentured servant on a swing shift while getting treated like garbage isn't everyone's idea of being a driver.

Flipping Whoppers doesn't get your foot in the door to a job driving.

He doesn’t have to actually work there. Just apply and see if they’ll take him. If they say no, you’ll save a lot of time elsewhere.

    Iamoverit and Lonesome Thank this.

When I worked there, probably 75% of the drivers were ex-cons. They were all excellent employees. One went back to prison and WE told him; "When you get out, your job will be here."

    KE5WDP Thanks this.

Carnivals hire cdl drivers. They're not too picky either.

omg all of this trashing of Western Express is sad. This is one of the best training companies that ever existed. They have the ability to turn a good driver into a top-notch driver in a matter of months.

They have a set of skills that they teach a driver, like:
    • how to take off the hoods, mirrors, destroy steers and rip up trailers while just moving slowly in the parking lot then claim it wasn't you
    • how to blow out four trailer tires at once by taking out a bollard in an empty parking lot
    • how to drive a truck without an inflated steer tire for 10 miles, and further specialized training on acting surprised when you were pulled over telling the cop that it didn't drive any different with a straight face
    • how to get weighed on a cat scale backward
    • how to adjust your axles on the scale and damage it so it can't be used by anyone
    • how to make a road where there is no road
    • how to make a U-turn where there is a narrow road and properly block traffic for 4 hours
    • how to judge mud depth from 150 feet in order to get your truck stuck past your axles
    • how to try to recreate the Baja 500 by taking your truck and load off-road into a field for 4 miles
    • how to try to convince a low 11 5 bridge that you are not 13 6 but 11 and show the bridge you are right
    • how to run people off the road
    • how to ride someone's butt so close that it looks like you are trying to recreate a scene in Duel
    • how to rear-end another truck at 20 mph above the speed limit while you are watching Life after Lockup on your iPad taped to the steering wheel
    • how to ignore traffic signs, especially the ones that say "no trucks" and "weight restrictions on bridge"
    • how to enter the freeway using the wrong ramp and going down a southbound side, northbound
