Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and hope I'm posting this in the right area but anyway I need help choosing or finding a good company. I know truck driving is something I want to do, I've been watching my dad for the 20 years that he's been trucking and I've learned a lot and have seen a lot. Problem is getting my CDL and getting on the road. I'm nearly 21 and when I say nearly I mean my birthday is on the last half of next month and I'm more worried about starting a truck driving job rather than celebrating my 21st birthday. I've looked into schools here in TN and there is no way I can afford nearly 6K for most schools. so that brought me to look at swift as thats where my dad started 20 years ago but they don't hire until 23 from what I was told. I also looked into CRST and C.R. England. I've seen England trucks a lot and I think thats who I want to go with but they won't know if they are starting school till at least the 26th of next month and thats a little bit away. I've spoke to CRST and they can get me started on NOV 5th which would be before my birthday and I'd have my CDL by the day I turn 21. But they told me they only run teams and thats not what I really want to do although it would be good to start but I would rather do solo driving than teams. so what I'm really wanting to know is if anyone knows of any other places like england that does SOLO driving and schooling. Thanks for the help!

I would talk to a school in your area about financing. If you do not have established credit then ask someone to co-sign for you. You have so many more options as you will not be tied to any one company. I graduate in 2 weeks and have a lot of jobs lined up. Many trucking companies that hire students will reimburse you for the cost of tuition. They make the loan payments on your behalf.

Where there is a will there is a way. Good luck to you, Take care

Try your local community college/trade school..they usually have some tuition assistance programs available and also most are not as expensive as "truck driving Mills" as I call them. You will receive better training at a lower cost and most have a job placement program available. you may not have to live at the school also if it is close by....Good Luck

If you were unemployed you can look into the WIA through the unemployment office, but I would tend to say that you would be better looking into community college's that offer it. If there are none close by, then the only one that I would suggest is Millis Trucking that offers there own driver education program. It is way better then SWIFT and stay the hell away from CR England.

Roehl has a school. I think you have to put out a little money for it but I know it's not any 6k. And you get to be solo.

There's a school just south of Murfreesboro on I-24, called Commercial Driver Institute. Talk to those people. It's across the street from a Pilot Truck Stop. It's on the East side of the interstate. It's not as expensive.

Also, check these schools for age requirements & solo driving.

CLICK HERE for a list of trucking companies that hire new drivers.

Your best money will be with refrigerated company.
