My trainer at Swift was a 7 year veteran of trucking and a new lease operator for the last 9 months before I got on his truck. Checked the oil and the dipstick was dead dry. He said these engines can run OK up to 3 gallons low. Talked him into reluctantly putting one gallon in-- he was against it because he was due for an oil change the next week and didn't want to 'waste' $18 bucks on new oil that would end up being drained out.

That's funny as hell. I handed my line to a driver a couple of weeks ago at the I95 scale in Dumphries, VA because he had just been placed OOS due to 2 (not one, but two) completely flat tires on his drives. He walked over and asked if I had a line - Always willing to help a guy out, I hand him mine. 20 minutes later, I'm ready to roll and I walk over to his truck and he is still standing there with the air line glad hand in his hand staring at his trailer - he looked at me and said "I don't know how to use one of these".
It's getting scary out here. Some of these guys are dumber than a bag of rocks.tucker and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this. -
Believe it or not, Dysart's truckstop in Bangor Maine still has full service. You get a free meal with so many gals of fuel purchased. Right on I-95 when you come into Bangor. Nice people and decent food.
truckon Thanks this.
