That's great and I wish you the best and agree that you should start wherever you can that has the opportunities you're looking for. Just make sure to get your valid CDL and keep your nose clean (no tickets, no drug charges, no bad job references, etc)
chivo66 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -

The Yard jockey approach was a brilliant idea. That is a skill that once learned will take all the scary out of trucking. People seem to panic when it comes to backing up. I remember just hoping the truck would fine a dock that it liked. Yard jockey jobs pay between 14 and 30 per hour depending on where you work. Ford and GM in Kansas City have them. They don't do much and are UAW jobs. Home every night and when they get a bit of the sniffles.
Working on the dock you will also get a chance to see the importance of strapping down your loads. Pick up a few pallets that have slipped off will drive that lesson home. Also you will learn why drivers love the phrase drop and hook.
And most of all remember, we all hate lumpers.
Welcome to trucking.Tonythetruckerdude and chivo66 Thank this. -
