Couldn't take it. Traded it off for a dedicated run. Cant stay up with them and drive all night. Also cant stand disrespectful students.
Maybe I'm a bit old school, but I don't think it's all a big joke. I think it DOES matter that you arrive on time. Next kid that pees on my wheels is gonna get 90,000 volts.
Anyway, I am not a good trainer so I got a dedicated with crst and a co that has been driving since 1990. I can sleep now when I need to and drive the rest.
Thanks for the advice folks.
btw, CRST is not the worst decision a person can make. Like every other opportunity, it's about what you make out of it. Trucking is not a job. It's a life. It pays better than Walmart, but you have to leave the house to do it. Most drivers cant go home every weekend and make any real money. Especially new drivers. As an otr driver, YOU HAVE TO DRIVE ALL OVER COUNTRY, NOT JUST IN YOUR HOMETOWN!!!!!!
Couple hints for new folks.......
NO you cant go home yet. No you cant go home yet. No you cant go home yet. Your an OTR driver. Get used to it or get out.
You need to shower more than once a week.
You need more than one set of clothes.
There's more than just you in this truck and I hate hip hop.
Keep your personal phone calls to yourself.
Better yet, put that #### phone away.
You cant go into Denny's everytime you eat. Sometimes you just grab and go. "GO" being the primary word.
There's a fridge, microwave, elect skillet, toaster oven onboard. Use them.
Put your bedding away when your done with it.
I'm not your mother. Clean your own mess.
Don't re-arrange my truck. It is where it is for a reason.
No, we will not be co-drivers after your training period.
Put the caps back on the tanks after fueling.
Don't pee on the truck.
Keep your religion, political, and family problems to yourself.
Don't lie to me. You got cussed or flipped off by another driver for a reason.
Kill the bright lights.
Stay in your lane.
Slow down before you enter the ramp/turn.
If I tell you to stop, your GOING to stop. Do yourself a favor and stop before I explode.
Sorry. Rant over. So are my training days.

Well at least you know its not for you, good effort though it takes a special kind of person to deal with us kids during training.i say us kids cuz im only 24
thymekiller Thanks this. -
Sounds like you made a good move.
thymekiller Thanks this. -
While the great majority of trainees "get it" and work hard and take pride in running miles safely, others are ill prepared to work and think trucking equals "freedom" to do whatever they want without regard for performing.FerrissWheel and thymekiller Thank this. -
Some trainers are a holes plain and simple but I'm glad I was train by a professional clean Saftey trucker. You got to love those trainers who only use students as a mile money maker for them instead of teaching them how to drive a truck safely

Most of you guys have a misguided concept that a trainers job is to teach the student how to drive. This isn't true. If the student cannot drive to save their life, they need to go back to 'school'.
Your job as a trainer is to teach the student how to be a driver. They need to learn things like trip planning, and what to do at customers, and you learn by doing. When you pick up or drop off a load, let your student do all the work. Let them get the bay assignment, let them get the bills signed, let them bump the dock, etc. Your students need to do all the associated paperwork and scan it in each trip. This is what your students need to learn. Otherwise they're going to be lost when they go solo.thymekiller Thanks this. -
CDL schools are referred to as "CDL Mills" for a reason. The only thing they teach you is just enough to pass the CDL tests. The schools rely on trainers at the companies to actually teach someone to drive. After the first day behind the wheel in my truck the average trainee doubled their behind the wheel hours.
Scary, huh?... and I'm the one wearing toe holds in the floor board of the passenger seat.thymekiller Thanks this. -
If you can pass a CDL test, then you should be able to drive.

Fire-Man, thymekiller and Lepton1 Thank this.

I hope they meant that if you get a CDL you should be able to drive without having to go through the hell of a company driver trainer. Funny ya'll think its normal for a person to starve and be dead broke in order to learn to drive. If you ask me meal allowances provided by the company should be mandatory. Hell they are making a killing on the student training mill anyway.
