Microsoft also partially switched to the Google model with Windows 10. They have it on over 350 million devices since launch and that is astronomical. Why? Free for the first year. But it is full of privacy holes that ultimately sell the user data to advertisers and to Microsoft itself unless you go turn them off.
Who doesn't love "free?" But the actual price is selling the user. The money is made in the back-end from advertisers. Why do you think they bought YouTube and a hundred other companies? Why do you think that Google Maps if "free?" Why is Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, etc "free?" Because the metadata is all scanned, analyzed, parsed and redistributed to advertisers.
Anyone can make a tablet or phone with Android on it via licensing. But only Apple can make an iPhone or iPad. Subsequently, Android is lower cost, more apps, more "free" stuff. But you PAY up front for those equivalent Apple apps in most cases. Therefore they DO allow a lot more leeway in terms of privacy because the money is made in the "front" end and not the "back" end. Many paid versions of Android apps allow the same privacy in fairness here. The problem that I have with it is the abuse of the willingness of users to give up their privacy. Many apps have unnecessary permissions set to use them even on the paid versions. I understand and respect the model. I have no problem with paying for an app that does its thing well. I do have a problem with the paid versions of said apps that still try to get the back-end money on top. I also have no problem when they clearly state the privacy policy up front on the "free" versions and let you decide if "free" is worth it to you to have what the app does.
In this case, the app is currently "free." -
Apple is not only much more secure by nature (actually selling security) but Android is much more insecure by nature (selling user data) ...
To be honest, for me and my family Android just "costs too much" and a bulk of that cost is never actually seen. At least with Apple, one sees the cost right up front.
But for those that prefer "free" and don't necessarily place a "value" on security nor personal privacy, I am glad they have the option to choose what they want.
I love my little corner of the walled garden. -
Well about the app itself, i used it today going all around Cincinnati and the local area as a test run to see what its like in the truck today. It coincided with all the proper truck restricted routes..... I think I am almost sold on this app. If they want to collect my data to try and sell me ####, go for it, ill be happy with the new free tool that I have! lol

Ok, serious question for all the Pro-CoPilot as a real GPS for Truckers group...
Is it legal to drive a 53' trailer through Atlanta?
I am under the impression that all trucks need to go around Atlanta and never through Atlanta. Unless of course one is making an actual delivery inside the beltway.
True or False? -

Those cops are versed in excuses as well. Guys used mainly you like "I just picked up from the rail yard" so they'll ask to see a dispatch or any pick up info proving it. Guys said well im onot the way to the terminal and they'd ticket them because it was on the outer Banks of the loop.
Cops are very versed in truckers excuses in Atlanta. Ga dot also target ALOT of the intermodel guys there too.
