I recently obtained my CDL with Tanker endorsement. I initially wanted to get into dump trucking but I am unsure where to begin. I got the tanker endorsement to make myself more marketable, but am leary about getting the HazMat as I have no desire haul anything of that nature. I need some advice on where to begin as far as dump trucking and driving a tanker goes. Just the pros and cons and possibly some companies with good reps to apply to. Thanks for any advice/help you can give.

When exactly did you get your "A"? CDL mill or private school? Have you been OTR before? Personally I think the more endorsements you have the better you look (twic also if applicable) How old are you? -
I just got my CDL A/Tanker two weeks ago from a CDL Trucking school. I'm 38. New to trucking so never been otr. I'm looking into TWIC as well....just learned about that one. How often do I have to upkeep the HazMat endorse.?

5 years... when you do the twic, the twic will expire when the hazmat expires if my memory is correct.... I cant comment to much about tanker jobs and what not, because thats the field i wanna move into soon..... but i do think that without any experience at all... that it might be tough getting a tanker job, unless you can get on with one that maybe hauls water (?) or maybe even driving a small straight tanker.... again im not the best advice on this subject... but the ones that DO KNOW will eventually get in here, and with the added info you gave should let ya know something.
good luck, and congrats on getting your CDL -
Thanks for the advice. How long have you been trucking and what do you do? Flatbed? Oversized? Coastal? Dedicated?

What do you wanna know about dump trucking? You drive around in circles all day getting a load off...haha. It's not bad though , I've been doing it for the same place for 3 years now

You can do food grade tanker work with a company like Foodliner which has 3 divisions. Aslo dry bulk tanker hauling dry bulk cement or other dry bulk with a company like Bulkmatic. Tanker work is very good and pays better than other types of trucking. Consider hazmat/tanker because you can easily make $60K + annually. I hauled hazmat, mostly acid, 48 states & Canada.
