I'm not trying to be a geezer, but I do long for the way it was many years ago. Chances are the cop that stopped you or pulled you over was your neighbor. If you weren't being a complete ###, you would just get a warning. If you were a teenager and doing foolish crap, the cop would follow you home and tell you "I better not see you out again tonight". I believe back then, there was a "mutual" respect. I realize times have changed and things are more dangerous now, but a little bit of humility on both sides of the issue used to go a long way.

Last time I came outta Laredo, the polite officer asked me and I quote...
“Sir, why is your step deck empty?”
I was a deer in headlights I tell ya. Here I am expecting the usual “sir, are you an American citizen?” or “sir, is there anybody else with ya?”
Nope. He threw me that curve ball and I froze momentarily.
“Cheap freight. Bouncing north.”
“Thank you. Have a good one.” -
