I know there is a lot of companies and they all do their orientations in different way. I am leaving for orientation on the 26th and was wondering what a normal day one was. I know there is a road test, physical, paperwork, etc. Anything I am not expecting? Road test a lot harder than I think? Didn't learn how to hook up to the trailer or move the tandems in school, need to worry? Thanks for any input.

Perhaps,
if folks knew what company you were going to,
they could give you a specific answer. -
Day 1 is usually paperwork/physicals. It can be hectic if there is a large class, like 35 -50. Smaller classes are better organized. Just getting 50 students from the motel to class is a logistics nightmare sometimes. There will be students who can't wake up, will be nervous, their body clock will be off, some will forget their papers, some will talk non-stop about "home" or their kids etc. Some will fail their physicals and get sent home. When you come back from lunch and there are empty seats, that means they got the boot. Don't worry about hooking and sliding for the road test and don't feel rushed, since it will be a different truck than school. Normally road test is just that, a road test.

No hookup practice in school? That might be a worry!

Where you headed to on the 26th, we could probably be more specific if we knew where your going and how much exp you have. I'm gonna guess Prime but i am only guessing

Don't worry about the hook up part..we learned how to do it closer the end of our schooling. You will get plenty of practice on the road with your trainer. I didn't move tandems till I was out with a trainer OTR..

Sorry but I gotta ask. What kind of school doesn't teach you to hook up????? Good luck with your new job and enjoy.

Day 1 is usually the most exciting day of orientation. Physicals. Drug tests. Road tests. Paperwork. You get to meet a variety of people from the various departments in the office. They feed you lunch. You maybe get to watch a video or two.
..and you get to hear stories from other people in class about "Well..when I was with (trucking company) this is how we did it.." Some times your fellow students talk more than the people doing orientation! I suggest a tranquilizer gun to shoot them with.rodzilla Thanks this.
