ccolvin, it looks to me like you "dodged a bullet" here! Be thankful! Finish off what you are committed to, then go find a decent job. You won't find that at Knight.
Now back at Knight

I am running on my laptop battery, but doing laundry. Here's one of those situations we all hate, but it happens. Picked up a load with a tight schedule. Shipper took 3.5 hours to load it. I inform dispatch, hey, I wont make it now, best I can do is 6 hours late. *E-Logs*. Response was oh, its not as bad as you think, just do your best, talk to you tomorrow. Blah Blah Blah. Next day, after a few stressful phone calls from dispatch who cant figure it out, I arrive only 5.5 hours late. End of story? Nope. Dispatch was completely messed up, I was on the wrong end of the state. So, in the end, the load was only 24 hours late. Load planners admitted their mistake and all is cool. And I get paid for the extra miles.
Other then that, everything is cool. Got myself a new Ipod touch to replace my dead Ipod Video, now I have all my audio books to keep me company during the long stretches.Merlin1477024 Thanks this. -
Another small update. Saturday, while cruising down I64 near Williamsburg, VA towards, Chesapeake, I began to feel something was wrong with my truck. Guages were ok, so, what could it be. I start looking for a place to pull over safely. A few minutes later, I hear a terrible screeching sound. I have to pull to the shoulder, cant keep going like this. I jump out, open the hood, and see my alternator on fire. Grab the fire extinguisher, fire is out, good. But extinguisher is empty now. A few seconds later, the alternator is back in flames. I start calling *77, while waving my empty extinguisher over my head at traffic. I tell the operator the situation as another trucker sees my distress and pulls over. I tell him whats up and he grabs a six pack of bottled water and starts pouring them over the alternator. The flames out for good, I thank him, and tell him he better leave before the State police want to talk to him too. He leaves and a few minutes later a bunch of emergency vehicles show up while I am trying to reach my company and tell them what happened.
Its Tuesday now, truck was fixed Monday afternoon. Everything seems to be going ok.Merlin1477024 Thanks this. -
Did your DM or anyone else in the company ask you if you were okay? Or did they inquire about the truck first, and your well-being second? All in all, it's good to know that you will be back on the road! Now, about your DAC.... -
####, glad to see your ok

If your not scrutinizing your pay, you are losing money. It was such a problem for me I switched over to daily pay so I could get mistakes and "omissions" of my accessory fixed tomorrow instead of next week. -
But they will certainly try to rip you off, then try to disguise it as a "mistake." -
So, mistakes and omissions will happen, but I think I am a pretty good judge of character, and 99% of the people I have dealt with at Knight are just trying to do their job, given the constraints of the system. That includes drivers and office personnel.
There are some ########, to be sure, but IMO they are in the minority.statikuz Thanks this. -
I would agree with the needing to monitor your pay thing. We used to have the trip sheets that had the bubble you had to fill in that would let the document scanning software know that someone would have to review your scan for reimbursements that needed to happen, but now they have the new (regular size thank god) trip sheet - with no bubble. So the scale receipts and tolls and whatnot sort of go off into oblivion. I have had no problems calling payroll with the trip number and they very happily go check it out and process your reimbursements. I'm on weekly pay so I have to wait awhile to get my money but it doesn't really bother me.
I have also heard/experienced that you won't get paid for detention (that being the major point of contention) until Knight gets their money for it, so you just have to keep an eye on it (sometimes for a few pay periods) then call and inquire if you still don't see it come through.
It does seem like every time I call payroll I end up talking to the same lady which is quite a feat given that Knight has something like 3-4000 trucks.
So yeah, most of the people in the office I've dealt with have been totally reasonable. The shop is a different story as I haven't been real impressed with them yet - nearly all day just to do a 10,000 mile A service, really?!
