UPS and FedEx kind of freight are 2 kinds.

There's a few more that haul triples with single axles bumper to bumper.

That's primarily what we haul at XPO. 28' pup's w/2 axle tractor and single axle con-gears and trailers. We haul triples quite a bit, but our max load weight for pups is 24k, with a load limit of 56k in a train. We have a small amount of twin screw tractors and long boxes in our fleet, just not locally... It sure would be nice to have some to run on bad weather days...

my company makes the LTL guys drive the trucks that are still under warranty to the larger hubs to get the work done so theyll sometimes drive the single axles.

I know some of CF’s history as well. Some of it is thanks to our resident trucking guru Mike2633 and some from my first hand knowledge. When they first bought that model of sleeper truck it seemed high tech compared to the cabovers I first drove there. I wouldn’t have wanted to run team in it though. The bunk was too close to the driver for me, but it was a good truck to run the city in.

Any dispatcher stupid enough to do that, or any driver stupid enough to load 40k in a long box behind a single screw should be fired.

I drive a single and I pull pups with it sometimes. It beats driving someone else’s pig sty on a weekend run.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

Kleyson and Gill tried running single screws with a tag axle years ago on mail run. They spent many nights spun out trying to climb Tombstone,Kama point, Cavers, Montreal River hill,,,single screw just a bad ####ing plan in a province like Ontario where chains are prohibited and we have 7% grades that go for miles.

Chains prohibited in provincial Canada??? That blows me away!! Do you happen to know the reason for the ban?

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to pull them anywhere but the flatlands, that’s for sure.

    Bob Dobalina Thanks this.
