So If they added a personal dispatcher to that deal for an extra 5% would that appeal to you?

I am not worried about being able to pass them. I just don't want the extra risks, rules, and regulations involved with hauling hazmat. 80k lbs at 65+ miles an hour is enough risk for me.

I don't want a dispatcher. My next step is learning lanes, dead zones, hot spots, and freight patterns. What I don't want to deal with yet is billing, invoicing, and accounts receivable, which I believe that company does not help with. Did I misunderstand?

No. They handle all billing, invoicing and accounts receivable. As long as your paperwork is in by Tuesday you get paid by that Friday is the way they operate.

That's basically what you're paying them for. The administration end, and the factoring.

Cause you're gonna get paid every week. They may not get paid for 45 days or ever get paid.

You don't go to a company like MAG to learn about lanes and rates.

You go to a company like MAG because you already understand lanes, rates AND you know how to negotiate rates with a broker.

The accounting, invoicing and collections should be the least of your worries. So is finding brokers willing to give you loads. Just scan BOL, type an Invoice and email/translfo/upload it per instructions in the Rate Confirmation. They should pay you withing 30 days. If you worry so much about it then try one of those factoring 3% companies at the very beginning. I would avoid them though.
If you can get a decent insurance rate and the goal is to make your own decisions then own authority is the way to go. Thing to remember is that loadboards will not guarantee any better pay than what some can get working with Landstar or under someone else's authority.

I stated mistakenly in the previous post that load boards would guarantee a better pay from being leased on to a different carrier. It is quite the opposite. They will not gurantee anything. However, it still should be better than being leased on to Crete. The only prohibitive reason for being under your own authority vs being leased to a mega carrier is the insurance costs at the beginning and being under financed. 20-30K at the minimum to secure 1-2 months cash flow. Otherwise things can get too tight and nerve-wrecking. Anything else is on an owner. He can relay on load boards but if he's got more creativity, the sky is the limit.

Well, there's actually a couple of other reasons why better.
#1, I get a pretty good discount at PFJ. Right now its .37.
#2, while indys are complaining about the rates, the company I pull for has contracts and dabbles a bit in the spot market. But, l would think that 90% is contract freight. And while that doesn't guarantee volume, it does stabilize the price.
#3, 90% of what I do is D/H. As a 1 man O/O, 100% of what you do is live on both ends.

Just throwing that out there.....not meant to be argumentative.
