Exactly how do you expect to start a business with no working capital? If you don't have enough money to go to college, you most definitely do not have the funds to start a trucking business.

Don't worry, only a couple of digital signal processors, my laptop, my guitar, and my bass would be in the truck. No amps. No one would know I was recording music unless I said "Hey, I have part of my recording studio in my truck!" I have headphones for mixing.

I have enough for a down payment (maybe) and full fuel tanks. Perhaps it costs more than I realized. I was just in college for trucking school. If I got a degree, it would be a Ph.D in Astro-physics. I'd rather be able to pay for it out of pocket than be in tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt.

    Zebov:
You need to have experience first. No one is going to hire you just because you own your own truck. Most owner operators have started out as a company driver and ran the country for a long time or did the dumb carrier based lease program which is designed to save a carrier the hard costs to operate a truck and pull a load.

if you own a truck and I own a truck which I do in fact do and you have little to no experience versus my years of experience, who do you think would be hired?

I think he's been watching too many trucker movies. Its one thing to be clueless, but another to be totally clueless, and stubborn about it to boot...

[ Your asking the equivalent of "If I jump off the deep end of a swimming pool with 100-lb weights tied to each ankle, and I don't know how to swim, Will I live?" ] -- This is the question you are asking here,...Do you really expect to get a reply from ANYONE, that tells you go-for-it?,...I say,...JUMP IN!!!!,...only then will you fail miserably, then after that, perhaps you will understand.

o/o is a good thing if you handle everything right. go to legal zoom and they will help you incorporate. to protect your personal assets if you have any. be about business don't blow a big check just because you got one put at least 200-500 back every week in a special account just for maintenance because you never know whats gonna happen to your truck and taking care of a truck properly is expensive oil change (pm- preventive maintenance) 400-600 depending on state you get it, a steer tire 600+, drive tires 400+ each. a lot of thought goes in to being a good o/o think about it buy a truck that is not over 500000mi, whatever truck you get make sure from dealer it has a APU on it if you get that it will save on mpg. if you are a first time buyer dealers require 20% down payment if you have somebody that is already a o/o that will co-sign for you the dealer require 10% down. your truck payment will be 900-2000 a month plus maintenance costs plus fuel costs don't forget about the taxes make sure you put up couple hundred every month for taxes and keep track of everything if you got the right tax person you can write of if you buy toilet paper. my friend that Is an o/o he got back 5500 for tax return without carrying a child. so good luck ADD UP THE COST AND SEE IF ITS FOR YOU not every truck driver Is meant to be a o/o think about this for the first 2-3 years you are gonna have to run your butt off to make sure you meet your note make sure you sign with good company that have good fuel surcharge and mpg look at con-way they posted that there o/o make about 200,000 a year if you drive team its ova 300,000 so research it very good
