Hello , I'm wondering witch is the best way to obtain my hazmat. I'm currently about to leave to West Memphis Arkansas, going to a school threw road master witch will train me in general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. But they give you a study guide on everything including that, doubles and triples, and hazmat and passenger. I was wondering what the best thing to do should I just study the regular stuff and get my cdl and get my years worth experience then get hazmat? Or should I study it now and try and get the hazmat now and get paid more now ? They have companies trying to pull you in at the school they tell me companies like Schneider, Roehl, prime , superior tanker carriers all kinds my recruiter says.

I would get it now along with any other endorcments that you can ( Tanker and Double/Triples )... It will leave you more options of who you want to work for...

get that hazmat done now while your still in school because this will be the only time you will actually have the time to get it done. The fingerprinting/background check ($84.00) for TSA only takes two weeks then you can take the test. The hazmat will be good for four years and is the difference between making money or making garbage. Also make sure you get doubles and triples endorsement along with tanker. LTL companies are now requiring tanker endorsements because they carry those 1,000 lb totes. You don't need to wait a year for any of this stuff. Check into getting a TWIC card as well.

If you are going to be licensed (CDL) in your home state at your school, then get your hazmat now. If you are going to have to transfer your new CDL to your home state, wait until you do the transfer. Hazmat does not normally transfer from one state to another. So unless you want to pay for the endorsement, the background check and fingerprinting twice, wait until you get your home state license.

Hazmat & Tank best option doubles and triples to me is kind of a toss up. But get that Hazmat puts you miles ahead of those without.

No need to wait for experience. Get all endorsements and put them to work. You'll make more yanking a tank than you will pulling dry can or reefer. Having your hazmat is good because if a hazmat load comes up and you don't have the endorsement your dispatch will give it to someone else. That might leave you sitting for a while waiting on a load.

I am not waiting myself. I went and got my permit and already got my background check done. The TSA background check is moving really quick right now. I went to get my interview done at 10AM, approved by the next day. Also TWIC as well, in case you wanted to get that. I was approved same day for TWIC and my card was sent out in the mail the next day. Going for my Hazmat tomorrow as well as my Tanker. Was told from many people the same thing these guys are telling you. Get all the stuff you can as quick as you can. Than the rest just comes with experience.
