One of the better sources of trucking business knowledge I have found.

Yeah I probably should have said something but it just felt like I’d be banging my head against the wall. It is ridiculous that they treat people so poorly. I’d be surprised if the turnover doesn’t get worse as the recession gets deeper, I’m sure lots of guys are already teetering on the edge just waiting for a push to get them out.austinmike, hope not dumb twucker, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.

No doubt about it bro . I remember when I was working with swift it was the same bs ur going thru... one time my dispatcher wanted me to go see if a customer was open instead of waiting until the morning to load... it was 4pm I was in Connecticut, the customer was in Massachusetts... i had less than 2 hours on my logbook left... not possible.
I asked the dispatcher if he could figure out how to dial the number to reach my phone why couldn't he do the same for the customer? I then asked him to give me the ####ing number and I will call them myself.. Needless to say we got in a stupid argument over it and then he tried to tell me I was fired ! I told him ur not my boss and can kindly intercourse yourself...
worked for swift another 6 months after that and then went on to greener pastures...

Man I swear if I didn’t think some of these people were so ####ing stupid I’d swear they were doing it on purposeaustinmike, hope not dumb twucker, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this.

We don't have dispatchers at Swift, we have Driver Leaders. Used to be called Driver Manager, when I started.
I have always had better luck with my DM's. Much of it depends on the terminal you run out of.
There were only a couple times that something even similar happened with me. I just said no.
Too many drivers simply don't know how to say 'NO'.
But even when I used the N word, it didn't cause much of a problem. They just knew what I would put up with, and what I wouldn't.
A driver has to set boundaries, after all.
That is the thing that has kept me at Swift... I pretty much control things, simply by the options that Swift gives and knowing how to use them.TripleSix, austinmike, Numb and 6 others Thank this. -
Maybe the flatbed division was different.. I don't know. Had a dedicated dispatcher or whatever fancy term they want to use... guy was not good at his job at all... big companies like that , it takes 25 phone calls to complete a simple task and you have to trust the message is going to be repeated correctly on each of those phone calls... I get tired of #### like that. Trucking doesn't have to be so complicated... we're just moving #### from point 1 to point b . A guy would think this is rocket scienceaustinmike, hope not dumb twucker, Sirscrapntruckalot and 3 others Thank this.

I think in rocket science it would be point A to point B, or point 1 to point 2.
Those rocket science people like things to make sense.austinmike, Numb, hope not dumb twucker and 3 others Thank this.
