    Ummmmmmm.

    That's intriguing.

    Really.

    Lost for words.

No - read it again and thought about it.

wawtrucker is a guy who was extremely fortunate to go straight into ODFL from CDL school. It meant he had to attain top marks in school to be considered, apply himself, and qualify.

Then he had a nice hard transition for his first week or three, with the responsibility of earning for his family on his back, with his expecting wife and young child at home. Many times did he want to quit - I know, my phone line was open for help and advice the whole time.

I'm glad he made it through. He was about to run off around the countryside with an OTR company, would have missed his family pretty badly, and would have needed to have stayed gone to make anywhere close to the income.

So, D33rHUNT3R, having never driven OTR, or LTL - having been on this forum for 2 years and asked a lot of questions - having pM'ed me asking about ODFL, but never bothered to follow up on the research - comments lie the above are neither helpful to the guy, or necessary.

I'm terribly sorry ODFL doesn't have a pet policy. Take your pet and be happy somewhere else if you ever do decide to get your CDL.

Good dads are good providers. Almost any job that pays as well as he's making are more than 40 hour work weeks. He's home 3 nights a week, and I bet that kid doesn't want for much. Kudos to the OP for sacrificing for his family. I warned you before in another thread, this job isn't fun. The OP is missing his family even more than they miss him.

Wise words Brandson. Also encouraging words, thanks! The job is hard, sometimes it's easy. It's fun and then it sucks. At the end of the day, I do love my job, and ODFL. It's just tough with the hours sometimes. My family is the most important thing to me on this earth, and if I could have it my way, I'd spend every waking hour with them. That's just us.

I'm a family guy myself and there is nothing I like better than being with the wife and kids, but sometimes...sometimes, with a moody teen daughter and wild 10 y.o. twin boys all fighting like cats in a sack, I'm glad to get in the truck and drive away.

Renewed my medical cert. today. I've done it plenty of time before, so I knew what to expect although the doc did a hernia check which she didn't do last time. Thankfully the nurse had already taken my vitals. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are, if a lady has her hand in my shorts its gonna spike my blood pressure. They even faxed my renewal to the BMV, although I'm going take another copy to my license branch myself. It's not that I don't trust them, but I don't trust them.

I got my cert and the MVR faxed in to OD, so I'm back to the waiting game for a while. I'm hoping that if they make me a job offer it comes soon. That way I can put in my notice and serve it over the holidays. I'll probably be pulled from the truck as soon as I give notice, and I don't want to spend two weeks cleaning the truck barns.

Well, not sure exactly where you are w/ your app process w/ OD, but once they have everything they need from you (finished app, medical, drug screening), expect 2 to 2 1/2 weeks for corporate approval to offer the job. Hoping for the best for you!

Got my new schedule run after bidding. I'm running nights again. M-F. No more wild turns or extraboard.

Update to the thread, and another nod towards the fantastic company i work for. Running my schedule run is only about 360 miles a night. I can do it without even taking my 8 hour break. With those miles at .58 cpm, and my accessory drop and hook pay, I can still gross $1141.50 a week, working about 8 hours a night, 5 days a week. Pretty sweet for such a laid back run.

If I can get dispatched to a certain other terminal every night, in addition to my 360 mile run, with all the additional drop and hooks, I could gross over $1700 a week. Not bad for a rookie linehaul driver that hasn't even reached top pay. ODFL pays their employees well.
