I think I can help you with the following DOT guidelines comment. You can drive legally (if you are otherwise qualified, hold CDL and have medical) a truck provided you don't fall into any of the disqualifications listed in the tables in 383.51. However I am closer to Ridgeline with my opinions about hiring you. I won't say I would not hire you. I'm saying I would give your history a close examination before I gave you an interview.

Edited: This accident happened in 2010. It also is something I think about every time I see a thread asking about jobs in this industry after a DUI/DWI conviction. I'm all for 2nd chances. I just want to make sure you are not a problem drinker because if you are I can't afford you. THIS CRAP is why people such as Ridgeline and myself hold these tough stances. I never was able to get the final amount USA Truck had to pony up to settle all the lawsuits. However I suspect it was seven figures.

OP, to be perfectly honest I would not worry about a (policy) you have a DUI on your record, just do your best to make sure that is the only one. @Chinatown has (correctly) stated in other threads don't go by some of the things stated on a company's website. APPLY anyway. Even IF OD has such a policy in some cases they will still hire you after looking at your overall record and body of work. The largest hurdle your going to have is their insurance company! Just apply, you have NOTHING to lose.

I know a gentleman that operates a small specialty carrier in South Carolina. I almost went to work for him a number of years ago. He is a great guy that will give a working joe a 2nd chance. However he is not an idiot either. He told me once of an interview he gave a guy that had a DUI that was at the time about 16 months old. He hired the guy. The reason? The applicant honestly told him he was at the time in the final stages of a divorce from a lady. He did not handle the stress right and started drinking and this led to getting stopped in Shelby NC. This guy uses one of those portable breathalyzers. I have seen him walk around his offices using it. If that dang thing goes off your done. He told me that 2 or 3 evenings just before the guy starts his work he will test his breath and have it tested sometimes once finished. Understanding this policy and agreeing to it was the cost of being hired. I doubt he will ever stop doing it.

ODFL is a Hampton Roads based carrier. Although I live in the Hampton Roads area I can't answer any of your questions. All I can suggest is apply.
