Never thought to take that approach. Thanks for all your help on OD, they seem like a great company and we are hoping that they are the company that we sign on with next. We currently team with schneider running dedicated, which isnt bad b/c we get daily hometime and weekends off but we only bring home $700-725 a week.blairandgretchen said: ↑Juice 84.
Have a hunt in the Odfl.com site and find "personnel manager" or someone similar and send them a concise email stating your intent - they'll reply, then cc it to who you need to talk to. Blow a bit of smoke in their vents about what a great company they are, and a bit of smoke in your own vent about what amazing employees you'll make too.
Phone calls don't often get you too far, they can't ignore the paper trail left by emails through corporate.Click to expand... -
i don't understand the 6%, they match 3%?
-
Tricky area to explain - they match 50% of your contribution until you go over 6%. So if you put in 4%, they put in 2%. You put in 6%, they put in 3%. We put in 8% and they put in 3%, totalling 11% of gross. They also put in a discretionary amount at year end if they have met profit goals for the year.
Hope this clarifies. -
It's horses for courses I guess, home daily and weekends is great, especially if you have kids or family or hobbies - we used to run 3 weeks out at a time running reefer and it was just too long away , do we find this the best compromise. Don't get me wrong - after 1200 miles a day for 5 days straight, 2 showers and icebox cuisine we are both worn out and ready for 2 days off - but clearing $2400 a week teminds us it's worth it.
Let me know how you get on - remember persistence pays in the end. -
I make around 4k a month and my health benifits including dental and vision are 150. month(4kids&wife) the catch is I don't get home very much and when I do its only for 4 days. Any longer and my cash flow suffers. What Kind of check does a solo driver take home? and how much is health ins.
-
I have mad as much as 1800.00 bring home there. But on a 5 day week running the wild board i almost always cleared 1200.00 a week .
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Spooner,
My health insurance for just myself is as follows:
Health - $7.50
Dental - $2.00
Vision - $1.30
My wife has herself and an 18 year old and 22 year old (sons) on her plan and pays
Health - $55.00
Dental - $8.00
Vision - $2.30
She is 41, I'm 36 - both in fairly good health. -

Running the solo wild board as Buck Trucker said, you can clear about $1200 - but that involves packing a bag and going out until your 70 are extinguished, but you get to sleep in a motel every night.
After you get seniority then you get to bid on regular runs that would have you home every day(or night).
The previous post on health insurance - those are weekly figures, and it's with United Healthcare, and it's reasonably good insurance.Spooner Thanks this.
