Wife & I have 8 months experience driving. Have our Hazmat & double/triple.

We applied at the Des Plaines, IL terminal today. Any advice to get on with OD ?

If anyone works at this terminal & could put in a good word would be appreciated.

Did you click my user name and read my blog, bud? Apology if I'm repeating myself.
Is des plaines the CWS terminal?

I read it. It was very helpful. Thanks.

What does CWS stand for ?

The Des Plaines terminal is near the airport. It was pretty big. I was impressed with how well maintained the companies equipment was. After seeing everything....it made me really want to get on with OD.

CWS is the new southwest Chicago terminal - brand new. I think it'll be taking mist of the areas freight through it.

DM me if you need anything - good luck. You'll like it here!

CWS is located in Joliet. Huge terminal; I think it is going to be the breakbulk for the Chicago area. Des Plaines is big, but it is still pretty tight to maneuver around!

I went to the Old Dominion website. Emailed the Safety department letting them know about our application.

I also emailed David Congdon, the CEO of OD. He emailed me back. Told me he would forward my email to HR & the linehaul department for consideration. I was shocked that he actually wrote me back.

    Fingers crossed

Don't be afraid to call your nearest terminal you'd like to work out of also. Hiring on at OD takes a bit more than the way the OTR carriers pick up people easy. Pretty cool that Dave responded ain't it?

Everyone who works for this company will tell you that management really does mean it when they say they have an "open door" policy. No matter how trivial the issue may seem, they will take the time to listen to you and offer solutions. The fact that Mr. Congdon responded to you doesn't surprise me. It just reinforces how awesome this company really is, that the CEO will take the time to at least answer a potential employee's inquiry.
