There is no need for you to explain yourself. You are doing great for a guy with 2 years...

In NY we have these dumbed down OTR Drivers living in there sleepers for 3 weeks and home for 2 and gone again..They bring home 400.00...ROLMFAO...:biggrin_2559:And you know the cost of living here...Do not sweat it,your doing darn good for 2 years. You are doing better than some guys/gals with 20 years exp living like a PIG in there trucks...

Hey folks, I opened up this thread to be informative. I wanted to lay out what I make vs the hours I spend working for that pay. I tried to go into detail as much as I can so others can get a general idea what the LTL world is like as a linedriver. If you think I am underpaid or I am too ####tty of a driver and kill to many deer, I guess I will let you sit there and you can generate a negative impression of some random linedriver. This was never meant as an assessment of my driving skills or other performance. I will ask that you keep that in mind. If anyone here can take something good out of this, I will feel a bit more accomplished about revealing some personal information about me and my work history. Again, this was only meant to be informative.

That's why I said, I wasn't trying to burst any bubble. I seen the 2 years driving. Anyhow, congratulations. I just know these ltl companies feed off each other. Happy drivers making minimum wage equals companies paying minimum wage (not saying .44 is minimum wage but it is in the ltl world). Next thing you know, the freight rate cuts come, then paycuts, vacation pay etc. I've sat in a lot of meetings to hear, "Old dominion is doing it, Roadway has done it, Conway is doing it so no we are just going to take a personal day and no pay increases this year." I'm just doing my job not just for me but the entire trucking industry. I just can't sit here and say nothing and watch the ltl world end up like the truckload side of this industry.

Fair point. Not gonna argue that. For me, I just wanted to lay out what my year was like. This is not an opinion on what I should be making vs everyone else. This is what I started out at on my first year. I see you got way more experience than me, if compensation is a matter of argument, I will insist that a higher level of experience warrants a higher level of compensation. You get what you pay for as the Americans say.

Yeah, priciate the very informative thread starter post. I'm not organized enough to keep up with everything like that. I've never started out with the money your making. You'll do fine in this industry, it's the ones that's been doing it for years and still making what they started out with is the ones that are messing it up for everyone else.

Apparently, you have never driven in MT, at night. Having made the run down 212 from Little Big Horn down to Belle Fourche, SD at night on more than one occasion, I would say four strikes in a year is low. I have never seen so many mule deer on a road anywhere. Throw in the occasional pronghorn for good measure and the wandering elk and I woulnd't be surprised if you hit animals everyday in MT. The wildlife there makes WV look like a display at the fair. Might want to realize the difference in locales before you pass judgement. Excellent post by the OP if you ask me.

I've had deer hit me. They were traveling at a higher rate of fuel consumption than I was.

Nice post road_runner and specially thanks for your service in the military. I personally can't believe you hit only three deer running in Montana. I only made about 5 or 6 trips through there in the last year and took out one. Also remember it is not always about the money. If you are generally happy with your job you are probably ahead of 90% of all drivers.

Getting paid $.44 cpm at 98000 miles a year is pretty darn good for an LTL driver. Many OTR drivers for mega fleets don't get those miles and are paid $.22-$.30 cpm

I think you are doing very good being its your first year and tnx for all the info, it sure opens eyes for some drivers
