Hey guys. Are there any good cdl training courses I can take online/have study supplies sent to me? Are these reliable training methods? I have kids to watch and a full time job, I need to keep working and really won't have time to sit in a classroom for hours a day for several weeks.

I'm hoping to be ready ASAP to take my CDL test but by August 2011 at the latest. If I can study at home a little bit every day that would be great. Any help is appreciated. I'm in PA by the way.

You probably can't take your road test online though.

    Sorry... I had to... :biggrin_25523:

Seriously though. Are you looking to study for your permit, or are you trying to just study up and actually go take your road test? If you're going for your permit, all you need to do is go to the local DMV/BMV and pick up a copy of the CDL study guide. There isn't a bit of information on the test that isn't in that book, most of it verbatim.

If it's the latter, studying information resources will help to an extent, but you will want practical experience (actual driving) before you attempt your road test. I'd suggest looking into a school. Your situation might even allow federal, state, or local grant money. In 2003 I got a $4000 grant from the county I lived in to attend CDL school.

I agree with Mattkujata. This trade is taught with apprenticship style training. Watch and practice, watch and practice, practice, practice, practice. Book learning is secondary. Even the pre-trip inspection is best learned by practice, practice, practice. The goal is to make operating the rig second nature so the driver can concentrate on traffic.
