You and sister team drive with Old Dominion. They have some good runs doing west coast turnarounds.

I think you're right. I'd put money on the nephew being an idiot too.

2 full time jobs, travel time included and still have a personal life. Sounds like fun!

Quick factual answers and then you can erase the rest of the "I heard" junk from your mind.

Worked ODFL 7 years. Team drove with wife. Teams on 70 cpm. Solos 60 odd.

We averaged $180 gross as a team those years, with plenty of time off - potential is $220k for regular runners.

@wawtrucker finished his 1st full year and did $60k on starting rate, wild board, with time off. He was lucky enough to hire straight from CDL school. Ask him.

It's HARD driving work. For most. Sure, home weekends and daily if solo, but you hook, run, meet, turn, drop and go home. Or stay in a motel. Beats the tar out of most OTR gigs, unless you like the lifestyle.

Reason I/we left ? Paid off all our debt, bought a truck and the wife retired. What else do you do with $750,000 net after 7 years? We were both burnt out on the gig. Now run when I want, no boss.

The amount of stories you'll hear . . . half of them want a recruiter bonus, the other half think that 40 cpm is the 'be all and end all' of their career options, or don't qualify for a better job.

Took us a year to get experience, then figure out the only way to achieve a decent life was run the maximum amount of miles, in the shortest time, at the highest rate, go home, rinse and repeat.

Detention after 2 hours? $50 layover? Wait for a dispatcher to find you freight? $50/stop ? No thanks.

If you can get in the door - stick it out, drive safe, and you won't regret it.

    Good luck - B.

I kept a running blog on the whole thing when this forum was in its old format, it would have been useful to you, but it disappeared - a mod sent it to me in sections, but I'd have to search back a ways to find it.

Definitely stupid. He went OTR and couldn't make more than $30grand? Take a Braindead and put him in the truck and have him follow everything his Deskjockey says without hesitation, and he will make more than that at a bottomfeeder. I think @JenV found a special kind of idiot.

Chinatown, tucker and JenV Thank this.
