A fleet manager (dispatcher) will get his/her butt quickly fired if that were ever shown to be true. This is also why I NEVER use the cellphone to 'communicate' with my dispatcher on issues like this. I tell my fleet mgr to put it on the Quaalcom, that way I have what my flt mgr tells me in 'writing'. It avoids any miscommunication, misunderstanding, and any 'he-said/she-said' if the safety officer wants to review my actions of any potential violation of company or DOT regulations.
It is a myth that Werner trucks shut down at the end of HOS. If you run past your HOS, and it doesn't fall (check section 395.1) under the FMCSR for emergency situations, you will recieve warnings, retraining and, if it occurs more than 6 or so times in a year, termination. I have no idea where this myth started, but it is one of the reasons why it is best to take everything you read on-line with a grain of salt and apply your critical reading and analysis skills.![]()

How is you time with Werner so far. I'm thinking of going with Werner, however I live in Northern VA and the closest Werner terminal is in PA. as apposed to Swift just 70 miles from the house. An since you live in the Tide Water area, did you look at Knight?

I talked with a young guy that was working Sears dedicated out of Maryland. Lots of BS but he was doing pretty decent in the pay.

This is what I wrote to Werner because I am tired of my partner being unhappy with the issues that Werner has---
I did some research, this is what I found, some and or most of your drivers are unhappy. You make broken promises on miles and pay. Past drivers (including my dad that drove class A for 43 years) tell every new driver to stay away from you. Why? Why do you make broken promises, hire drivers and place them yet when the drive gets there, turns out instead of making $800 or even $700, they make less than $500 a week. Why is this? Or is it that Werner has absolutly no idea but numbers on a paper that date back to 2005..? For your record's sake here is ONE of the websites that I pulled SOME of my information. I was not able to post the website on this blog. The rest comes from watching my partner loose loads for no apparent reason, having a steady decline in pay, but above all loosing hope in a company that has lost touch with their drivers. I will post everything that I have written here on the same website that I left for you to see yourself. So that any other driver out there will hopefully stay away from what seems to be a troubled company. Thankyou for your time - Dashai H. -
im guessing you didn't read the thread name before posting this?

I am a new driver two weeks from graduation at my driving school. I believe that I will go with Werner based on their compensation, tuition reimbursement, computer log system, benefits, 401K, stock options, bonuses, and rider and pet policies. I am lucky and live in Phoenix, so I have a lot of choices locally for OTR companies. There are no other companies that even come close to offering everything Werner offers.
Werner is a very large company. With that being said, adding up all the negative posts on here and other blogs on the web, it is a small percentage of the actual number of the fleet. I truly believe that the reason there is not more positive post is because the drivers that are happy are too busy to be on here. They are out driving and making a good living. If you want to know the truth, go to your local truck stop and talk to the people that are actually working, not the ones that are sitting at home and complaining. When I did this I found it hard to find a negative driver. Most had smiles on their faces and money in their pockets. Heck, even the SWIFT drivers where happy, and I have heard many more and worse stories about them.
It is easy to complain and some people are just never happy. I think it is up to the person to make their career and life what they want it to be. Too many think they should be handed everything now a days. You have to earn it. This is America.
Werner offers opportunity. If you are smart, hard working, and willing to sacrifice in the short term for long term payoffs, it will work.ajamess91 Thanks this. -
Just sat through a meeting with a Werner recruiter, and it did not sound as bad as the stories make it sound. IMO one of the best ways to find out the "dirt" on a compaqny, is to buy a CB, and when out driving your car, ask.
Often people that get pissed off, will talk, post, etc, but the happy ones don't say much. Any company that starts many new people in a new job/lifestyle is bound to have huge numbers of people that did not know what they were signing up for.
If you can find a driver, with the CB on, and have a talk, you can find someone who just happened to be working...and is less likely to have an agenda!!
I'm not saying Werner is great...they do have some policies+procedures that seem odd, or even a bit draconian towards drivers and their quality of life....but MOST BIGGER companies in any industries are like this....it is part of working for a big company, and being just one little tiny cog in the bigger machine. Some people like this...some don't.
IMO check into company culture, not just pay....then decide. You may make less, but have less BS to deal with, and be happier in some cases.
