A one truck owner operator is going to struggle to make a living with an older emission equipped truck. More deleted trucks on the road than you think.
Not all are straight piped and blowing black smoke. Just saying -
NY DOT that was working with EPA inspectors
Doing mobile emmisions checks. The inspector who told me they were going to be looking for deleted trucks , trucks leaking oil and fuel also etc was a NY DEC inspector who was working with DOT this past Tuesday off route 17 in NY.
A big part of this new ramp up in inspections is due to the ELD mandate. The federal government gave all the states funds to enforce it and NY alone hired 130 more DOT inspectors on top of the 600 they already have.
They have atleast doubled the amount of inspections since DEC 2017 , and a lot of these
New guys are gung ho and look at you like your the enemy .They are constantly doing inspections , even right through the winter in the middle of snow storms , they have to justify
They’re existence and their $100k State jobs and generous pensions . They are out there writing tickets for anything they can under the guise of
“Safety “ but it’s all about revenue and looking like heroes handing in big stacks of tickets at our expense. It’s funny one of the biggest ####### DOT
Inspectors I ever dealt with , and there’s been a few
( some decent , nice ones also) was an ex Yellow freight driver who got on with Pennsylvania DOT back in the late 90’s early 2000’s . You would think
Being an ex driver he would be decent towards you.
Nope ! Biggest arrogant clown I ever met , everything was “ I was a yellow freight driver, I know
What “you guys “ do out here , your not getting over
on me blah blah blah. He tried to hang you on every little thing he could find, little fat #### with glasses. All I kept thinking as he was rambling on with his little fat mouth was how. Bad I wanted to B- slap him out if his shiny boots. Lucky he had that badge and gun.....lol!Last edited: Dec 22, 2019

Prone to major problems. Having them deleted
Was out of desperation, not wanting to be bent over at a dealer every other week. I agree there are a lot out there. Most aren’t straight piped and some don’t blow a lot of smoke some do .
These people found themselves in a do or die situation with these trucks. What we’re telling the OP here is to not buy that situation off of
someone who is trying to unload a known piece
junk prostar with a Maxforce engine that they had to cobble it up to keep it on the road.Bean Jr., Upinsmoke and Farmerbob1 Thank this. -

Yeah, Owego had a 72 hour blitz this past week. I drove around. And I was driving a Maxxforce!! Though the one I use is a 2015 with SCR...
OP, that truck will bankrupt you the second something breaks. Also, the market rate for ones like it is nowhere near $20,000. Avoid it, and port work, and you'll come out ahead.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -

Where do you register your semi truck at?
It isn't about the epa and enforcing emissions.
You said you had to get your ranger tested annually to renew registration. That's a state issue. Registration on a big truck that engages in interstate transportation gets registered where? The only thing local irp offices do is collect the money and forward it to the different jurisdictions. They do not have the authority to set their own rules.
My God THINK man. Use your head for more that a hat rack. What you had to do with your Ford ranger has absolutely NOTHING to do with trucks engaged in interstate commerce.Upinsmoke and Socal Xpress Thank this. -
Apparently nobody likes prostar with maxxforce. I will work on it as long as they want to pay. I feel sorry for company or o/o that owns international trucks. They spent more time in the shop than on the road. Hope you find a good truck to buy. Good luck!
Upinsmoke and Socal Xpress Thank this.
