    OTR new and Contracts?

    Hi Friends,

I am considering doing my training at a Com.College.
    1. Are there advantages to doing it this way?
    2. Will companies require me to sign a contract because i am new to OTR?
    3. Suppose you don't like the company you start OTR with, can you get out of their agreement?
    thanks for your input...

Community College cdl school is an excellent way to get started.
No, you won't have to sign a contract to work for an OTR company. That's the beauty of the private cdl school vs. trucking company school.

I went to a private school. The advantage is you will have your license, most will not require you to sign a contract, some are starting to. Jim Palmer wants you to sign a contract from day 1, Prime will require it if you let 60 days go from your graduation date, others don't, you need to ask when you talk to a Recruiter. Some will also reimburse your tuition, or partially reimburse you, again, ask when you talk to their recruiters. There are also companies that do not have schools, they will hire you since you have been, Freymiller is one of them.
The struggle I am having is, been months since I graduated, I have no verifiable OTR, but I think I have a place that will take me, but I have to test first, and they will make a decision, or so they say. Only time will tell when I show up in a few weeks if they hold true to their word or not.
Getting out of a contract, probably not, most have been doing this a while, they have an army of Attorney's doing nothing but refining the wording. If you are a Vet, some will cut the time from a year to 9 months, again, ask.
Good luck, not an easy decision.

I was doing recoveries, but it has slowed down and the Sr guy gets first pick. It was not daily, so most will not count the experience. I had another thread going on the issue and all the details.
If you want to go local, just make sure you are driving daily and if another company calls they will verify you were behind the wheel everyday.

Yes. You will almost certainly get a trainer. And you will learn a lot. That's where you learn MOST of what you will use as a driver. You may or may not have trouble sleeping in the truck while your trainer drives. You may or may not find it is trying to live in a truck with another person. It's just for a short while and you can operate your truck how you wish after you get your own truck.

    tman78 Thanks this.
