Heres the deal I was injured on July 3 on the job been on workmans comp since then I appiled for a local job which I am cleared to go back to work well I have a driving test for new job in the morning and then call in and see if any trucks are availiable to get they came and picked up my truck so I gotta drive from STL to Edwardsville.

My question is if Im hired should I just put in for leave of absence and then put in 2 weeks or should I go back finish 2weeks with Swift or should I call DM and let him know and see if its worth for me to go get truck and go back out for the 2 weeks.

New company is NFI home everday $1050wk

does your state have any laws where you must give notice?
I know California is an "at will" state so we can quit at will and be fired at will
If you want to keep the bridge good with Swift you can give a notice but my buddy I was talking to yesterday about leaving told me he knows drivers who just up and quit and still got hired back later with Swift. He was telling me not to even bother with a notice.

I just dont see the point going to get a new truck for 2wks and spend money driving there and back and my wife would have to take and pick me up 4 1/2hrs each way about $120 in gas

Or you could do something with honor and integrity and give two weeks notice. It doesn't matter what others do; it only matters what you do.

its not going to hurt swift either way, there are so many drivers coming out of orientation waiting on trucks and will make less per mile than you...
With the experience and a job already lined up I would just go, I wouldnt plan on returning to Swift anyway since you will further your experience and find better jobs.

When I went to work for a Swift owner as a team mate, all I did was clean out the company truck and place the keys on my DM's desk. No notice was given, no hard feelings were conveyed to me about it. 4 weeks later quit the owner's truck and came back to terminal manager asking for a company truck and was put on the waiting list. I got my old DM back as well.

Trucking in my experience is not like most other jobs where you should give 2 weeks notice. And Swift being as large as they are with over 100% turnover, they simply do not have time to care if you give 2 weeks notice. I recommend do what is financially beneficial to you first, so if it is cheaper to stay home rather than that big commute until you go to work that might be the best. Chances are good that Swift will not have a truck ready for you as well, so that is more unpaid downtime.

There is no honor in the trucking industry. If this driver had done something that caused him to be fired, they would yank the truck out from under him and send him home on a smelly bus with zero notice. Take the other job. If you have a good record with Swift, you will be fine. You have been out of work for a month anyway, so it's not like you are parking the truck in a far flung place and letting them deal with it. Good luck.

if I was offered a job right now making $1k a week and home every night I would head over to the terminal and drop my truck right now....but thats me, Swift doesnt give me enough money to make me care about a notice. Will be the first job I never gave a notice
