Welp that car dealer is likely cheering. They get to make payment on all the lawn art no one is stupid enough to buy on their lot this month.

Regardless that driver is going to be screwed blued and tattoed by the end of this story

That was one scary ride hopefully nobody is permanently damaged … every time I read about downhill crashes it reminds me of a true story my instructor told me in 1995 about a young lad named Travis Penner .in 1989 His dad owned a trucking company in BC but said his son was too stupid to pass the cdl test so Travis went to Alberta and got his cdl . On a trip he stopped at the brake check in Kamloops bc and backed all his brakes off by mistake he was loaded with 84,000 lbs of steel beams . He took a exit that looked like it went uphill but their was a line of cars at the red light he managed to take the grass but his beams went through the truck and numerous cars killing 8 people.. hills need respect unfortunately many don’t use common sense on them .

Nah, not even close. The Colorado incident was a series of failures that turned into a catastrophe, all of which could have been avoided. This person with a pup was clearly overloaded, a benefit of % pay, had gone down that hill 17 times that day, the 18th, you could cook eggs on the brake drums. Most of us have been in that situation , especially dump trucks, not to this extent, I hope, and combined with distracted driving, clearly caught this driver off guard. The obvious upside is nobody was killed, however this goes on all the time, why, it's happening somewhere before I finish this post.

I’d be surprised if he was overloaded. If you get caught over gross in UT the first thing they do is pull your permit. Then they write your overweight ticket from 80k. Then you have to buy your permit back. When he could already gross 129k it’s probably not worth risking a few thousand more and chancing a 60k overweight ticket.

Braking systems were different back then.
Spring brakes on trailers weren’t federally mandated until October 1975-10 years after the Scranton accident occurred.

Seems to me, when he found himself in that much trouble. He should have hit a couple switches opened the gates and dumped the load.
    Disaster averted
